Does Armas dmg reduction ever trigger for things that come from the ground?

Source of the damage from the spell is generally the hero. So in most cases, it's relative to the actual hero.

*Exceptions may apply depending on what it is though.

If a hero gets hit in the front with Prisoners hook while it is retracting, is the source of the direction of of the damage the ball or Prisoner?

Most of the time, the answer to these niche questions is actually to test it yourself or to look at the XML script. Testing it yourself is way faster.
