Halberd Reintroduction

Intro

  • This thread will be a lengthy thread consisting of Halberd as reintroduced item, its proposed line of items, and its implication if you wish to read all the spoilers.
  • This thread contains multiple topics through reading the spoilers, so feel free to visit here and here if you wish to discuss the topics here on separated thread.
  • The proposed changes of this thread seems unlikely to be implemented into the game either partially or entirely but at least I hope it is worth to be discussed.
  • Feel free to post your concern about any topic(s) of this thread either partially or entirely here and I apologize for any inconvenience.
  • In short:
    • All chance-based attacks are proposed to have True Strike on successful proc (i.e. Riftshards, Swiftblade's Way of the Sword, Brutalizer, Chronos' Curse of Ages), thus all chance-based attacks on items are proposed to have Halberd in their components.
    • Bashing properties are proposed to have new mechanic but it will affect Savage Mace because it will involve mini-stun mechanic (and aforementioned True Strike mechanic), thus Brutalizer and Savage Mace will have their proposed change.

Halberd

Cost: 850 gold
Stats: 8 damage
Passive: 10% chance to deal bonus damage by 2.5% of target's max health on attack, containing True Strike on procced attack (
Halberd Modifier).

Builds into: Riftshards, Shieldbreaker, Brutalizer

Brutalizer, Riftshards, Shieldbreaker (and bonus)

Besides the current state of Brutalizer, there are proposed changes:

  • Bolstering Armband is replaced with Halberd and recipe cost is reduced to 400 gold.
  • 8 strength from stats is replaced by 10 damage (overall stats is changed to 50 damage).
  • Static damage on proc is replaced with 2.5% of target's max health, proc attack contains True Strike, and proc chance is changed to 20% for both melee and ranged bearer.
  • This item contains Halberd Modifier.
  • Bash mechanic is adjusted for this change (see additional proposed changes).

Besides the current state of Riftshards, there are proposed changes:

  • Punchdagger is replaced with Halberd.
  • Proc attack contains True Strike.
  • This item contains Halberd Modifier.
  • Total price is escalated by 350 gold (2975g/3900g/4825g/5750g).

Shieldbreaker Changes (Complete Rework):

  • Components: Warhammer (1600g) + Halberd (850g) + Logger's Hatchet (150g) + Recipe (800g) = 3400 gold
  • Stats: 40 damage
  • Passive:
    • 20% chance to deal bonus damage by 2.5% of target's max health on attack, penetrating 45% target's armor and containing True Strike on procced attack (Halberd Modifier).
    • +24 Damage vs Enemy Non-Hero Units (Melee Only) or +12 Damage vs. Enemy Non-Hero Units (Ranged Only). (Hatchet Modifier)
  • Active:
    • Target Unit - Creep, Tree, Ward, Gadget
    • Destroys target tree or deals your Attack Damage to an enemy creep, gadget or ward.
    • Has 600 Range (before amplification) and 25 seconds (15 seconds if the target is a tree, ward, or gadget) Cooldown.
  • Builds into: Savage Mace

Savage Mace Changes (Complete Rework):

  • Components: Shieldbreaker (3200g) + Slayer (2200g) + Recipe (275g) = 5675 gold
  • Stats: 66 damage
  • Passive:
    • 50% chance to deal bonus damage by 2.5% of target's max health on attack, penetrating 45% of target's armor and containing True Strike on procced attack (Halberd Modifier).
    • +30 Damage vs Enemy Non-Hero Units (Melee Only) or +16 Damage vs. Enemy Non-Hero Units (Ranged Only). (Hatchet Modifier)
  • Active:
    • Destroys target tree or deals your Attack Damage to an enemy creep, gadget or ward.
    • Has 600 Range (before amplification) and 15 seconds (5 seconds if the target is a tree, ward, or gadget) Cooldown.

Midnight Morningstar (PBT Item Rework):

  • Components: Brutalizer (3450g) + Shaman's Headdress (2050g) + Recipe (125g) = 5625 gold
  • Stats: 50 Damage + 10 Health Regeneration
  • Passives:
    • 10 Magic Armor (Magic Armor Modifier) + 20% Stun and Debuff Duration Reduction (Stun and Debuff Duration Reduction Modifier)
    • 20% chance to deal bonus damage by 2.5% of target's max health on attack, applying 1.4 second bash and containing True Strike on procced attack (Halberd Modifier).
  • Active:
    • Target Enemy Unit - Superior Magic
    • Leaps self to a target enemy at 1200 speed (disjoint and disjoint-able), dealing 120 Superior Magic Damage and applying 2 seconds Stun to self and target enemy upon reaching destination. Can deny self from damage.
    • Has 600 Cast Range and 12 seconds Cooldown.

Fenrir's Fang (Removed Item Rework):

  • Components: Runed Cleaver (3000g) + Halberd (850g) + Toxin Claws (270g) + Recipe (980g) = 5100 gold
  • Stats: 40 damage + 4.5 health regeneration + 6 armor
  • Passives:
    • 20% chance to deal bonus damage by 2.5% of target's max health on attack, applying Poison effect in 275 Radius for 3 seconds and containing True Strike on procced attack (Halberd Modifier).
    • 50% Cleave Damage in 275 Range (Melee Only).
    • Poison: 12 (6 to Ranged) Health removal per second + 12% (4% to Ranged) Movement Speed Slow for 3 seconds. Triples health removal against Non-Hero Units (Freeze Modifier & Toxin Claws Modifier).
  • Active:
    • Destroys target tree or deals your Attack Damage to an enemy creep, gadget or ward.
    • Has 600 Range and 15 seconds (5 seconds if the target is a tree, ward, or gadget) Cooldown.

Flayer (Removed Item Rework):

  • Components: Voltstone (700g) + Halberd (850g) + Recipe (250g) = 1800 gold
  • Stats: +8 Damage
  • Passive: 
    • 10% chance to deal bonus damage by 2.5% of target's max health on attack, containing True Strike on procced attack (Halberd Modifier)
    • Deals 40 Magic Damage to your attack target and bounces to 3 enemies within 300 units when 0 charge remains, then reset the charges to 2.
    • Removes a charge on each attack or after 5 seconds of not attacking.
    • The lightning effect propagates to illusions with 33% damage.
    • Contains Lightning Modifier (level 4 Codex zap animation).
  • Active (self):
    • 100% chance to deal bonus damage by 2.5% of target's max health on attack, containing True Strike on procced attack (Halberd Modifier) for 3 attacks or 8 seconds (65 seconds Cooldown).

Additional Proposed Changes:

  • Any chance-based attack modifiers (Swiftblade's Way of the Sword, Tarot's Luck of the Draw, Flint's Hollowpoint Shell (or Flint's Dead Eye based on this thread), Chronos' Curse of Ages, Pestilence's Gore, Kane's Offensive Force) contain True Strike on procced attack.
  • The sequence of Halberd Modifier Overriding (based on total price): Riftshards IV > Savage Mace > Midnight Morningstar > Fenrir's Fang > Riftshards III > Flayer > Riftshards II > Brutalizer > Shieldbreaker > Riftshards I > Flayer > Halberd.
  • Bashed target by any bashing properties (Chronos' Curse of Ages, Pestilence's Gore, Brutalizer) receives un-refreshed, un-purgeable Bash Immunity for 6.5 seconds.
    • Target under Bash Immunity will receive 0.1 second stun from any bashing properties (Chronos' Curse of Ages, Pestilence's Gore, Brutalizer) during that effect.
    • This proposed mechanic replaces the proccing cooldown from any bashing properties (Chronos' Curse of Ages, Pestilence's Gore, Brutalizer) so they no longer have proccing cooldown (it also means all bashing properties stack to each other).

Thought Process:

  • Halberd:
    • Halberd is proposed to be a cheap scaling item countering opponent with evasion and miss chance, primarily to uphill miss.

  • Chance-based Attack Modifier and Evasion/Miss Chance:
    • All chance-based attack modifier items are proposed to get Halberd as their component to give minor buff on them in facing opponent with evasion and miss chance, uphill miss chance is primary reason for that.
    • All chance-based attack modifier deserves to contain True Strike on their procced attack because evasion and miss chance affect any attacks taken while chance-based attack modifier only affects the dealer.
    • True Strike to all chance-based attack modifier is inspired by the mechanic of early version Monkey King Bar's True Strike (Savage Mace) used to not stack with Buriza-do-Kyanon (Riftshards) because the Monkey King Bar procs 100% chance of 100% attack damage to generate a True Strike (I could be wrong on this part).
    • Monkey King Bar case also inspires me to give Halberd Modifier to all chance-based attack modifier items.
    • There is nothing or less to lose by implementing Halberd Modifier on all chance-based attack modifier items because purchasing 2 proposed Halberd Modifiers will be a greedy build and the modifier opens opportunity for other items to be picked.
    • This proposed change also helps the development of evasion and miss chance on items and/or abilities because there will be various items countering them but they will be no longer irrelevant to certain True Strike.
    • As oppose to deflection, evasion and miss chance completely nullify an attack so deflection doesn't get involved in this suggestion even if they share similarity against auto-attack.
    • There are some proposed items utilizing evasion/miss chance such as Fortuna's Dice, Faux Bow, and Mock of Brilliance to add diversity of evasion/miss chance in the game. 
  • Shieldbreaker and Savage Mace:
    • The suggestion of Shieldbreaker change is optional change besides the thread below regarding armor reduction:
    • Shieldbreaker change is proposed to have a niche, compared to both other damage items and armor reduction items.
    • Proposed change on Savage Mace is intended to make the item not entirely counter evasion and miss chance and not solely is picked for the sake to counter them.
    • Shieldbreaker is proposed to be upgraded into Savage Mace because they are similar in visual icon, also it is to make both Shieldbreaker and Savage Mace competing other damage items.
  • Brutalizer and Bashing Properties:
    • Brutalizer change is proposed to grant a better chance to be picked over other damage items and to replace Savage Mace's secondary appeal.

    • As other chance-based attack modifier items are proposed to have their own upgrade, this is the early version of Brutalizer's proposed upgrade:
