Mod development guide

Recommended Posts

Hi, I'm curious is there an official guide/documentation on how to create mods for HoN? I'm talking about mods like current GPM or MMR overlay or some other information related mods. I've found several topics on different sites, but they seem to be pretty old and non-informative. It would be pretty cool if someone could provide a guide on how to do this.

Thanks!

If I’m not mistaken, there have never been any official guide/documentation on how to create mods for HoN.
All previously published guides/documentations has been written by users (modmakers).
Here are some useful old topics that can help you get started:

The only official guide was a map making guide:

@RedBearhey mate, thanks for sharing those links, they are pretty helpful.
I've found an issue during the simple texture mod development - after I copy my .s2z file into the /game folder and launch the game, the hero that I'm targeting simply disappear from the game (cannot select or see in Learning section). So, as I sanity check I've decided to download an existing working mod and learn its structure. After that I have packed it back using the 7-Zip with the following settings:

Archive format: zip
Compression level: Normal
Complression method: Deflate
Dictionary size: 32 KB
Word size: 32

After copying this file into the /game folder, the same issue appear - the hero cannot be found in the game client.

Could you please point me how to property pack the folder into a s2z archive?
Thanks!

If the hero disappears from the game, then this may mean the following:
1. Syntax error in one of the files
You need to carefully check all files for syntax errors and fix them all (missing closing tag, missing or extra sign, etc.).
2. Broken your .s2z mod archive
The .s2z file is just a .zip (uncompressed) renamed archive. Unfortunately, WinRAR versions above 4.0 no longer support LZ77/78 compression algorithms. If you have installed WinRAR v4.0 or lower, then zip your folder with it and rename extension to .s2z.
If you don't have installed WinRAR v4.0 or lower, then copy and open any working .s2z mod, put your files in it and delete the rest of the files in it. Then save it and rename resourceXXX.s2z where the XXX is mod name (preferred) or any number (e.g.: resources_DotaMonkeyKing.s2z, resourcesDrowRanger.s2z or resources888.s2z).
