Elementary FAQ

This FAQ contains a list of frequently asked elementary questions, and their respective answers.

How do I zip and upload my console.log?

Open "My Computer", then navigate to the following folder:

Windows XP - C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\My Documents\Heroes of Newerth\game\

Windows Vista/7 - C:\Users\[user]\Documents\Heroes of Newerth\game\

Now right click on the folder called "console" (console.log if you are not hiding known file extensions) and mouseover "Send to" and choose "Compressed (zip) folder".

This will create a file called "console".

You can rename this to whatever you wish if you want to.

Now open your browser (if you don't know what this means, then "Internet Explorer) and go to http://tools.heroesofnewerth.com/upload.php (alternatively you can just click on the link).

Fill in your user name and password.

Now press "Browse" and navigate to the folder where you saved the zip file (default is the folder the console.log was in), click on the zip file and press "Open".

Press "Upload File".

You have now successfully uploaded your console.log. However, for us to view it, you must copy the "view" URL and paste it into your thread.

How do I zip and upload my crash dump?

Open "My Computer", then navigate to the following folder:

Now right click on the file with "crash" in it's name and .dmp as it's extension. Mouseover it and "Send to" and choose "Compressed (zip) folder".

How do I generate a dxdiag report?

To generate such report, please press and hold your Windows Key and while holding it press R. Then type "dxdiag" in the box. Press OK afterwards!



Then the new window opens you will need to click on Save All Information button to export all the information we need to help you.



Lastly, save the file to your desktop.


You have now successfully generated a dxdiag report, however, for us to view it, you will need to attach it to your thread.

How do I conduct a traceroute?

First you will need to open up "cmd". Do this by typing by holding down your Windows key and pressing "R", then type in "cmd" (without the quotes) and press "Ok".



After that the command prompt will open.



Type in "tracert masterserver.hon.s2games.com" without the quotes. You can replace "masterserver.hon.s2games.com" with any IP address that you have been asked to conduct a traceroute to.

After you have typed this in, press "Enter".



The result should look similar to the screenshot below.


Now select the "Edit" menu (if it is not visible, click the top left icon of the window) and left click "Select all".


Repeat the above step, but instead of left clicking "Select all", left click "Copy".



Now you need to paste it somewhere for us to be able to review it.

Open up your browser (Inter Explorer, if you don't know what that means) and type in http://pastebin.com in the address field (alternatively, click on this link). Then click in the grey box and choose "Paste".


Now press the "Submit" button.



You have now successfully uploaded the output, however for us to view it, you will need to copy the URL from the address field and paste it into your thread.

How do I check core temperatures of my computer?

For checking core temperature of your PC you will need the following software if you do not know how to do it via BIOS. The name of the program is Speedfan and it can be downloaded here:

After installing this little program, please run it via your Start Menu.


Open up the program and click on the Readings tab. You will find the temperatures of your CPU, GPU and HDD. If you are not sure of default and proper values please contact your hardware manufacturer.

How do I debug my internet connection?

Open your browser (if you don't know what this means, then "Internet Explorer) and go to http://netalyzr.icsi.berkeley.edu/ (alternatively you can just click on the link).

When the page is done loading, press the "Start Analysis button.


At this point, you may receive a security warning. You need to press the "Run" button in order to start the application.



A Windows Firewall alert may also popup. Select both checkboxes and click allow access. This will allow the debugging tool access through the firewall.


When the test is done (this may take a few minutes) the page should look similar to the screenshot below.

For us to be able to view the result, you must copy the URL from the address field and paste it into your thread.
