HONCAST FAQ Section

If you have any other questions, feel free to ask them here on the forums. From now on, we are going to direct everyone here who has questions concerning our site. Thanks for your interest in HONCAST and hopefully you can get everything answered here.

Why are you posting this in the HoN Forums?

We are posting our FAQ's in the HoN forums for now because our current forums are pretty bad and are not active what so ever. So we wanted to give a way for the community to get their questions concerning our site answered here or ask other questions that may not be on here. Also, all of our staff constantly gets pm's each day with the same questions over and over, so it made sense to make a post like this.

Why does HONCAST use Wordpress for their website?

Currently we use Wordpress because in the beginning it was the simplest way to get things started. We originally had a web site designer, but because of his disappearance all the sudden, we were forced to just get this solution set up instead. But with that said, HONCAST has a new site in the making and it will be much more smoother and better for the community and we are very excited to get it out as soon as it is finished.

When will the new website be finished?

Right now there is no exact time, but you can be that we have been very hard at work with getting it ready to be released along with several other features for the site. Just stay tuned and be patient for now, but realistically you can expect it to be out before the actual HoN game is released.

Why is your live streaming quality bad sometimes?

We currently use the Livestream service with Procaster to do so. With that said, its a very basic service and by no means was or is our intention to keep using for the future. But it is a temporary solution similar to the Wordpress site until we get our new software/hardware ready to go. We have currently invested in new streaming software/hardware and same as the site as well, once it is ready we will begin to use that instead. You can expect not only the live stream quality to be much better, but the VOD's as well will be much smoother and higher quality.

Why do you have no live streaming schedule on your site, I always miss the live casts?

We currently have no schedule set up because well... there is none to be had. Currently, our livestream service that we use has no actual delay on it other than lag. To be able to live stream tournament / league matches, it is suggested that you have at least a 5-6 minute delay in order to prevent "ghosting". Although we have done some live streams so far, it has been because of agreement from both teams, but their still is the chance of ghosting out there. So until we get our delay system with our new streaming service, we have not been able to live stream most of the tournament matches. We do sometimes live stream scrims/pugs however, but these usually come up all of the sudden and they are not planned by any means. So until we get our new delay system with the new software, do not expect an actual live stream schedule.

Why do you go offline in between casts on your Live Stream?

We currently don't have commercials and what not to go to in between live stream casts, so as a result we have gone to going offline while not casting. We do our best to do a pregame and post game show, but us casters also need breaks as well

. There has been the suggestion of just playing random replays in between casts, but we feel like this would cause more confusion than help and wouldn't help for what we are looking to do. Of course keeping viewers is something we think about, but we are doing our best to work with what we got for the time being. Again, in the future when we have our new software and once things get bigger, you can expect streams to be up full time during casts.

Why can we not download your VOD's?

Right now we do not allow downloading of VOD's because we prefer to keep everything located on our site for the time being. But this has been brought up and in the future it is a very viable option, however do not expect this anytime very soon.

Why don't you have a .mp3 format for us to download and sync with replays?

Similar to the VOD's, we would prefer everything stays on our site for now and you can easily sync up the VOD stream to a replay for now. Again, something that has been put on the table, but do not expect it to happen very soon.

Do you only plan to be a VOD/Live Stream site?

No, although currently that is for the most part what we are, but we plan to expand into competitive coverage all together. This includes interviews, articles, guides, pretty much anything that relates to the competitive HoN scene. We want to be your #1 stop for everything HoN, not just VOD's and we plan to be that site. Again, this is something you can expect with the new site, so stay tuned for that.

Can I spectate your matches that you HONCAST?

No, simply put. We get requests all the time of people asking to spectate our matches that we cast. It is not that we don't like you, its simply that we want to keep spectator chat to a minimum if any at all. Also, it prevents any chance of a spectator "ghosting" for the competitors. So please do not be offended if we say no, but we just simply cannot allow it.

Do you guys work for S2 Games?

No, HONCAST is does not work for S2 Games, we work for E-Sports Media Inc. Although we have a good relationship with S2 Games and will be covering there Launch Party / Alienware Finals Tournament Match in San Francisco.

Can HONCAST cover our tournament?

If you have a tournament that you think HONCAST might be interested to cast, just send either myself or HunteR_ a forum PM with some information and we can go from there. Right now however we are very busy and find ourselves casting a good amount of content, so we cannot guarantee coverage. We are looking to expand to covering LAN events as well, but currently on bigger ones for the time being.

Is HONCAST looking for new shoutcasters?

Right now we are full on US shoutcasters, however we are looking to expand into AUS and EU shoutcasters for future content. If you think you may be interested in this position, just send a forum PM to HunteR_ or breakycpk and again we can go from there. Although we are only looking for very confident individuals who have a strong speaking voice and are easy to understand, and realize that we are a professional business.

I am not a good shoutcaster, but I want to help, is there anything else you need?

HONCAST will be picking up several experienced writers for our new site as well as moderators for the forums and perhaps a few other jobs. Right now we aren't looking to pick these people up, as the new site is not released yet, but we will make an announcement when we are. However as always, feel free to PM HunteR_ or breaky on the forums or in IRC on #honcast on gamesure.net, and we can see what we can do.

Answered a lot of questions in my mind.

However, I'd really like if I could listen only to the audio tracks of the VOD's so it wouldn't be so bandwith hungry and I could sync it then up with the HoN replay ingame. No need to download the mp3.

I would love it if you could add a 5... 4... 3... 2... 1 counter before second '1' in every match. A mini-countdown so that we can better sync with replays.

I thought i had literally viewed every game on HONCAST but i can't recall that game and since you've been hyping it yourselves in the past it would be sweet to be able to watch it =)

Implement a feature on your site where I can show a list of the casts that I haven't viewed.

I forget which I have and haven't seen and often end up going through 4-5 before I find one I haven't seen.
