Hero/General Guide Links

This is a thread for some of the vets out there to give tips to the new players. HoN can be incredibly frustrating when you're new, and 99% of the problem is misinformation and not understanding exactly how to play.

So, I'll start off:
1. To learn more about the game and the items, go to "create game," check "private" and start that way. This lets you play in a game without any pressure from other players to learn a bit about how the game works.
2. Play cautiously when starting out! When you die, not only do you lose gold, but you also give it to the enemy. Being too aggressive is a sure way to set yourself back.

For help learning items, we have a thread which contains all the images along with their descriptions here, if you're an ex-dota player, you may also find this thread interesting as it has the shops with dota icons overlayed. We also have a list of HoN -> DotA heroes in this thread.

I'll also be linking to hero guides in here. If you write up a hero guide, put it in a new thread and PM it to me.

Guides of high quality or high interest will be marked in red, this is'nt to say the other guides aren't worth reading, they probably just don't conform to the standards that a premium guide must match.

Contributing Guides

If you want to write a guide, please feel free, but make sure that it is laid out well and contains substantial information for people to read. A guide should make use of images (see Hucklecat's guide to Keeper of the Forest for a good example). If you see a hero has lots of guides and another hero with no guides, to help everyone out it would be great if you could write a guide for heroes with less guides.

For a thread with all images of items with descriptions please see Hucklecat's item list thread.

Once youve written it, drop me a PM with the link to the forum post and i'll update this topic.

Happy writing!

INT, STR, AGI - What exactly do they mean?

Exact definition we obviously know, but it's been so long (not being an original dota player) that I'm hoping someone can explain exactly what they mean IN-GAME?

IE. Does INT only increase mana or does it also increase spell damage / skilled spell DMG?

Does STR only increase HP or does increased STR points have any other effect?

Thanks in advance! :P

It depends on your hero's primary attribute, if its INT, they will receive a bonus in their mana regen, mana pool. STR will get increased HP, HP Regen, AGL will give increased attack speed and armor. Regardless of the primary stat, for every point you put in your primary attribute you will see a bonus in attack damage however, you won't recieve a bonus to spell dmg or skill spell dmg

Hey how about if you write which date each guide is made? This way it's easier to spot potentially obsolete guides.
