So me and a few friends are having a little "HoN Tournament" if you will, and the rules call for 2v2, probably on the first map. I'm unsure about the type of draft, but it will probably be a banning draft (hence heroes like :chro:will likely be banned...). Any advice on a hero pair that would work well together?
my favorite is Pestilence & Scout

Pest should get shieldbreaker & daemonic
Scout should get brutalizer, wingbow, savagemace, y'know. damage items.
-25 armor + scout flurry = retarded
you will literally 4 shot people.
Succubus Panda is good for control.
Armadon Jerry is also very fun, armadon should go for
nomes, dsham should go for stormspirit & astrolabe.
Devourer Jerry is also very good if the devourer can hook. While laning, you can mostly just walk up to the enemy (most of the time, even if they're ranged) and use your fog and THEN go for a hook as they try to escape. It's pretty hard to land hooks when laning because they are really obvious, unless you waste time going to the woods hopefully getting a hook off, although it's obvious to your laning partner what you're doing.
Hammerstorm Pyro is also very good for team fights, hammer stuns > pyro stuns > pyro waves = both people at very low red hp, and pyro still has his ult and hammerstorm will charge your ass with ghost marchers & galvanize, making it very hard for the enemy to get away.
If it's not banned, glacius & zephyr are very strong together in team fights. Lots of control, plus using glacius' freeze inside Zephyr's ult is awesome.
From my experience in 2's, unless you have stupidly amazing hero's, it's generally better to have ranged, as if you shut down their early game, it is likely their late game will be awful as well. So ranged agi carries, CD, Arachna, etc are good. Just go with your opponents weaknesses if you can. If they have invis or melee without stuns, go arachna, etc.
Corrupted Disciple + a stunner like elec is retarded, you can corrupted conduit the person being stunned and have +200 damage when you should already be hitting for like 180 by midgame. 2's comps are really OP... I can't think of many more though. but I'm sure there are some, just experiment.

Accursed and Soul Reaper to counter early-kill lanes like Swift + (insert stunner here) or Magmus and Pyro
Succubus + Witch
Ult one, sleep the other, kill ulted one, when the other wakes up, sheep him, if he still isn't dead, sleep him again / stun, then kill him.

A better way to do this is have Scout get the Shieldbreaker, have Pestilence get Insanitarius, and then move on to Daemonic. Shieldbreaker just synergizes a lot better with Scout than it does Pestilence, and there is no reason to get Brutalizer at all in a 2v2 since Pestilence pretty much is a Brutalizer.
Have Pestilence open with a stun and mark someone with ult, scout silences as the stun wears off, and you both focus fire the debuffed target. 99% of the time you will kill them within a single flurry, without them being able to fight back whatsoever. Pestilence is also excellent at catching runners, so it's a pretty easy genocide.

swift and elec. Elec grabs, swift spins around and sits right behind the guy, elec nukes at the end of his grab. basically a death, and swift is magic immune the whole time.
Cleansing shock also works well if you need to chase or escape
This Depends on quite a lot of things.
First you have to realize that heroes that are not very viable/mediocre in 5v5 can become much better.
For example, KotF gets a hell of a lot better: his armor+regen and his high base damage alow you to sit in a lane and last hit everything against pretty much every ranged.
Also, certain items become much better. If you play elec (great pick in 2v2) and out harass the lane and farm up a null stone, it's much more effective because the other team is probably only going to have 1 disable per hero, so you can grip freely.
It really does take experience though, 2v2 is much different from 5v5.
My personal combos are: SS + reliable stun (insta gib is much more valuable when it's half the team), any combo wiht zephyr, defiler + support mega push team.
This is all input for the 3v3 map, tell me if you are playing the other one.
Also, forgot to mention how good succ is, she usually gets banned when I play 2v2 however.
Edit: Also, if you can have lane control, that's pretty dominating as well.

But seriously, Pollwog is one of my favorite 2v2 heroes. Puzzlebox is just retarded in 2v2, it wrecks the game. IMO you guys should ban it from your "tournament" if you want it to be more about playing well. Haha. But if not, build it, build it, build it. It counters people with low str gain, people with low int gain, stealth, and synergizes with slows, stuns, and holds. GFG
Pollywog Priest + Swiftblade can work very well.
Or Corrupted Disciple, if you want someone who won't need a lot of help.
If you pick Bindings first on polly, and team up with a Swift spin (Coming from the forest) you've got a guaranteed Bloodlust, if you don't mess it up.
