There have been a few posts that suggest it, and Ride's Interface Suggestion List barely touches upon it, so I figured I'd see what other people think about giving banlist its own interface window in more detail.
Currently there are a few issues off the bat that I can see with the current banlist. First off is the format. It's merely a list that you can access with the /bl command. The problem with this is that once you start getting a large number of players on your banlist, this list will be harder and harder to manually look through. I know the banlist shows you who joins and is on the banlist, but sometimes you want to check if a certain person is on there beforehand, or modify someones ban and you don't remember the name offhand. As an avid DotA player, my banlist was approaching 1500 personaly bans. As I know the HoN community can be nearly as rude as the DotA community, I do not doubt that I will have a nearly endless pool of people who I do not wish to play with.
This brings me to the other problem with the formatting. The list is not in any way sorted. Players on the banlist show up in the order you put them there, making searching a long list nearly impossible. If there is no chance of banlist having its own interface window, this at the very least needs to autosort into alphabetical order.
Giving banlist an interface could allow sorting by name, by ban, or maybe even by date, though I rarely use the last one. I hate to say "make banlist like the WC3 one", but that is pretty much my feelings. The WC3 banlist had many very useful features, such as autokicking banned players or autopasting their bans to all players. It also had binds to automatically add people to you list with a specific format (ex: <Name> is currenty banned for <reason> in game <gamename> on <date> by <Banner'sName>). This would make it easier to ban people in game (or even the ability to right click a person's name in game to add them, this may be in already in some form). Sometimes the "last played with" box doesn't show some people, maybe this has something to do with people who leave early. Also if a player had been referred to by their color, you may not actually remember the person's name you wanted to ban. This also applies to weird names where people use 1's or capital I's as lowercawse L's, you call someone "noobkiller" but its actually "No0bK1Iler". Yeah, try typing that into a /bl command efficiently.
In a few other threads, people asked for an easier banlist system and were dogged for being lazy, which I believe is untrue. Wanting to make something easier for yourself/everyone doesn't make you lazy, it allows you to waste less time on something that should be more simple. Were cars invented because people were lazy and didn't want to walk places? (yeah, lame example, but you get the idea). Improving something that is inferior or less than satisfactory is part of human nature.
Just a recap or list for people who don't want to read the post:
-Banlist needs its own window
-Banlist entries should be in alphabetical order, but perferrably sortable by name or ban reason
-Allow some sort of button or right click option from in game to ban people or bring up a box with that person's name to type a reason. Mistyping a name could mean you have to suffer though that person again if you don't recognize them, and once your BL is big, theres a high chance you won't remember EVERY person you dislike.
-Autoformatting would be optional (<Name> is banned for being a <Reason> in the game <Gamename>, etc)
-Options would be a plus (such as sounds when banned players join)
-Ability to share banlist with others (the formatting would be nice to be able to differentiate your bans from other player's bans if you were to share)
Anyways those are my suggestions. I understand this may take some time and I don't intend to imply that this should take priority over other issues, but I believe these suggestions would allow better control over who you play with. It may be arrogant, but everyone should be able to understand that when a person ruins a game (not just simply going 1-5), you don't want to play with that person again.
Certainly support!
Banlist needs to be more organized and definitely needs more ease of use as denoted by the OP
