    New Player looking for tips

Hi, i started to play HoN yesterday and i was looking for some tips about the game cause it seems that i sux a lot at it ^^

I started to play with :jera:Jeraziah, some ppl told me to play tank since i'm new, it has a good AoE skill but its close range and i always get ganked!
So i changed to :fors:Forsaken Archer since its ranged it gives me some advantage and i can pull off sooner if things get nasty when possible, but sometimes they catch me and since i dont know how to make good use of the skills of it, although it has a good damage power with the help of the skeletons.
Currently i'm playing with Valkyrie, ranged + stun + ranged AoE + skill to run back faster as possible.

I hope i get some better help here than in game! tks
PS: I never played Dota (never got my attention)!

don't expect to be good or at least decent in the next few weeks, this takes forever ( someone posted a learning progresstable in dota forums back in the days ).

i would suggest you to understand the overall idea of last hitting creeps and at the same time denying your own. this is a basic step to learn how to make money and exp on the lanes and stop your enemy from getting the same.

i would further suggest you go to practice mode and look at every single heroes abilities just to know what expects you when you play a public game.

read guides in the strategy section.

There is no hero that is going to make up for you not being familiar with the game.

Pick any hero with a stun, preferably a str hero like hammer storm or pestilence. While last hitting creeps practise checking the minimap every couple seconds to see where the enemy heroes are. If a hero in middle lane is missing, you probably need to hug the tower until he appears again since he might be coming to gank you. If heroes in your lane are missing, make sure to tell your team mates.

(auto attacking creeps doesnt give you gold, just puts you close to the creeps where you can be ganked/harassed)

Play No-Stats until you are confident enough to get into real games.

    Also, do not play EM.

Play no stats games + random heroes and check out guides; http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/sh...ad.php?t=55717

I use that link even now; I've played around 300 matches at this moment.

PS: Swiftblade was a really nice hero to learn the game w/ atleast for me

Read guides. Play lots of different kinds of heroes to learn what you are up against. You should also never tower dive before you are better at the game, a kill is not worth a death.

Play more games, you can't learn HoN by just reading guides. You will see big improvements after just 20-50 games. Try to always carry a TP so you can escape when you are getting ganked.

I do too. I googled it and couldn't find anything.

I wouldn't recommend swiftblade as a first hero, since he's really either a "total feed" or a "sort of kind of background dominate next to my team".

I like Demented Shaman for new players. He's easy to use once you get the hang of his skills, and he pretty much autowins everything but a double stun lane.

For reasons I can't give just yet, I don't know that DS is a good starting hero. He's good but he's also very specific in his abilities and easy to kill. Arachna is a decent starter although she's not someone you can really continue with so that's no good either.

My first hero was torturer. Not to say that's a good place to start, but that's who I went with.

I disagree. ALL of demented's skills are survivability oriented in one way or another. Hide + heal + astro makes him damn hard to kill. And he also has a slow + stun so he can run away. Arachna on the other hand... she gets 2 shot by almost anything but I guess she can slow and run.

As a support you should be using those spells for ganking and keeping your allies alive, not yourself. Selfish is not the way of the support user.

Well if you get focused (which happens quite often for obvious reasons) you gotta save yourself first if you want to keep keeping (lulz) your allies alive

Best advice is to learn map awareness. Always pay attention to where the enemies are (or arent if you can't see them on the map, backing up is probably a good idea) how far the lanes are pushed (can get you some good farm when you remember to ALWAYS CARRY A HOMECOMING STONE) and what your allies are doing (so you aren't farming obliviously while they get ganked in the forest 1 screen away where you could go save them and kill the enemy).

Also, never autoattack creeps, only go for the last hit.
