hey i have played hon for some time now and i started to wonder how a free for all map would be on this game. to me it would be cool to try it =)
and the only place to buy items would be in the middle where about 3 kongors is watching it.

And a fight without items is just pure bull****, so no please.
Ain't gonna happen, kthxbai. The whole point of HoN is the lanes, the towers and such. Not that i wouldn't want to see a FFA map made, just that this is not good.

Anyway, this could work. Let me show you how.
You make a map. A 2v2v2v2v2 map. Pentagon shape, (that is 5 right)? And with lanes branching to each base. Inbetween those bases you offbranch creep spawns. 2 medium 1 hard. that the bases share.
In the center is kongor. Same ol kongor as usual.
1 tower defending each side of the bases. 2 barracks on each side. with a world tree/ hellbourne of YOUR CHOOSING YAY!!
Anyway moving on...

I figured this would be a great winter map. Perhaps an overlook of a mountain. where the top in the middle is kongor and the 5 bases are little outposts on the side of this mountain peak?

The problem is that this would absolutely destroy map balance. You're nullifying all big AoE heros (like tempest) in place of agi carries and single target destroyers.
I would recommend having only one actual lane for each base and a meeting spot. This would allow AoE heros to be able to still take people out in clusters.
But even with this there are problems such as the truely MASSIVE amounts of creeps that will be needed. One creep per lane would be way too easy to defend against and even if you buffed the creeps so they were as strong as 5 creeps, that's still 5 creeps per spawn per base that can get stacked up if they are not killed.
Overall there's a ton of stuff you need to work out, because some crappy map you made in paint doesn't cut it worth anything.
You cant make a game, with heroes in it, with different abilities and try to make different game maps with fewer people or people in different game types without it eliminating the balance portion. Right now HoN is balanced to a specific map, with specific guidlines. (5v5)
Making a FFA map, is just that, a map.
You arent making a game for 1v1ers, or 2v2ers or anything else. So how is there stuff needing to be balanced out?
I can see how it will be unbalanced, but the fact that having only one lane attack another lane completely nullifies AoE support heros. If you read my post, I gave a suggestion that would help fix that.
okay, sorry if im missing something, but theres a lane to the center from every base. So if the lanes leading to the center produced creeps, and kongor spawned, so all the creeps attack kongor then mabye it gives incentive for heroes to go and try to get the token?
Im missing how in a 2v2, tempest cant ult, and someone like magebane beats on someone?
