Creeps are not always equal to each other.

Unless there's a creep strength variation if teams are uneven in players.
Unless ^ this is true, just sit in practice and watch as towers are downed, I'm sure if oyu sit long enough one side will win.

There if you were to spawn them infront of each other creep to creep they should kill each other, unfortunately due to the way they move down the lane a ranged creep or a melee creep will always get the first hit in thus it can only slightly imbalance it, I'm unsure why you want to post such confusing stuff on a newbie guide when tbh, what I said is as true as it could be and not really misleading in anyway, perhaps if you want to comment on guides that are well recieved think about what you are posting?

Thanks for all the other good comments that keep coming though, and if anyone wants some further help feel free to PM me in game/via the forums.

I think you should add in what section of the shop you can buy specific items. I ended up just remembering the hotkey's for specific items(BSQ for Fort. Bracers, BSZ for E. Marchers), because its still really intimidating for me to look through all the shop sections.

    great work though, amazing guide.

I say 0.5-1.2 is average, because those people generally have atleast an idea of what to do, and will listen.

You can´t really tell much with the use of stats. Thanks to the fact that luck (with teammates, enemies, picks, some minor skill luck) are always included. Same with dota: Stats mean nearly nothin. (some players play extra bad in pubs /ruin the game for their fun) and can still play mid- highskilled clangames /inhouses.

Thanks for this guide, helped me fail less.

I have one question though - I'm a noob, and I seem to be picking things up alright. I don't seem to be dying much when I play a ranged character, but whenever I play a melee character and I try and get the killing blow on creeps I seem to get ambushed and die, and it always seems that the enemy down my lane is a higher level than me...

Only when playing a melee character...can anyone suggest how I can be more careful?

    this guide was helpful

except i think it would also be helpful if a person (or a few) were willing to tutor new players in-game
because i learn better actually playing.

Pestilence is a carry, not a tank.

    Retail will fix it
    Realignment patch will fix it
    DotA2 will fix it

Inactive due to uni, also calling it right now: DotA2 comes out and sells power, SC2 DotA by Blizzard releases and is good, and it becomes the next big thing.

I think there should be another category like gankers/roamers. Heroes that have great ganking capabilities early-mid game; like pestilence, arachna, succubus etc. (of course this may only apply in pubs, where people there usually don't know how to counter this gankers.)

    Just my two cents

Just wanted to make a quick note on your guide here. I know this was written a long time ago, but I was going to reference it in my FAQ on the Training Grounds.

Dying actually costs 30*Your Level rather than a percentage of your current gold. So a level 4 hero will lose exactly 30*4 = 120 gold.

Please no. I'm so fed up of Demented Shamans that don't heal or Hellbringers that don't take their slow.

The best heroes for incredibad players are gankers like Pyromancer, Deadwood and Thunderbringer. They're easy to get kills on, don't take much learning and aren't hugely rice dependant.

Oh snap, Zephyr is now an int hero. Nah, seriously, you'd better change it before people like me start asking why they can't find Zephyr in the int hero list.

Thanks for this, I look forward to more updates with hero classifications.

Easiest hero to learn is Legionnaire. Cuz your entire job is blink, and have whirl do the rest. If you die there it's usually your team's fault or bad initiation. Deadwood requires knowledge about moving around the map and to keep rune control early game, Pyro has to aim his stun and as such, newer players will always miss that stun. Thunderbringer is okish, but again, for the best effectiveness you'll want to know how to move around the map and know rune control.

Not a bad guide, i only see one thing wrong, which is the failure to mention initiators in the Hero classifications list! otherwise a superb guide of the basics!
