gdawg, I'm just trying to say that nobody should consider "tank" as the main role on any hero. It's definitely a sub role, and I mention that every hero needs to be tanky to some extent to survive teamfights and ganks gone wrong, but every hero you pick will have something far more important than tanking ability to offer like 90% of the time. Like, when I look at Kraken and Legionnaire during the laning phase or midgame, I see good disables/decent nukes/strong ults before I think of how high their EHP can be. Certainly, being tanky allows those 2 to make the most of their skills, but that doesn't make them tanks. And yes, I acknowledge that some heroes fulfill more than one role.
I like you thread and i think that it was intresting too read and i thought that i would try to enligthen you on some points/thingy's
First and foremost i'd like you to take the word tank into consideration, In this artiacal you speak of it as a role, but in my opinion its more of a aspcet or a abillity, i know it makes little sense atm but i will clear things out in a moment or two.
First i'd like to state what makes a tank a tank. and it is the abillty to controll threat or more when talking more casually "taking agro". And the one and only hero who can do this is with his taunt abillty which forces the enemys to attack him. Therefore is the only hero per defination who can controll threat. But there are ofcourse other ways to "take agro" in HoN we can "agro" creeps by attacking a nearby hero and thuse tank them, this also applys to towers which will attack you if you focus attack on them, but this is all very random since it wont release argo when you target attack on it, but you have a bigger chance of geting it when the creep/hero its currently attacking dies.
well i hope i made sense and sorry for the bad english, but not to worry im about to start studeing it :P
Engineer I think should be more anti-push.
Valk as initiation I only agree with in small group situations.
Also Hag as an initiator really?
Legionnaire could be listed as an initiator too imo.
We need Tanks and Support
S2 just surrendered to LoL
well-written, well-thought out. obviously my thoughts on xyz hero roles are not going to entirely coincide with yours, but for the most part they do.
has no place in strategy. the only strategy that goes on here is name calling and stat comparisons.
A lot of heroes have multiple roles. Pharaoh is both a ganker and an initiator.
Tank is a property of a hero, like glass cannon or squishy.
VERY good guide.. nothing new for me.. although i wish this was pinned somehow for new ppl to learn.Keep up the good work
i think he's referring mostly to her invis, which affects your whole team.Valk as initiation I only agree with in small group situations.
yeah, i think i agree.Legionnaire could be listed as an initiator too imo.
How about Kraken? He's not in there as an anti-pusher or initiator and hes AS good as behemoth at those, if not better. I believe krakens the strongest initiator in the game when played well. Thats why he sees alot of bans in BD.
Ok, I added this to the OP, but the guide isn't meant to place each hero in a certain role, but to clearly outline and describe the roles themselves. Don't get over-excited if you see a hero missing or not where you think he belongs. Those lists of heroes are just examples to give people an idea of what makes a good initiator/ganker/carry/support.
If you have criticism, focus on the meat of the section: the role descriptions, not the hero lists.
While you shouldn't ever consider tank to be a heros primary role, its important to note that having someone that can tank a tower or kongor etc and also give you vision of a team for an initiator to exploit in addition to their other duties should not be overlooked, however, this role can be filled by pretty much any hero with decent str gain and a vanguard.
"wow this is weird, i just picked valk and realized there's a stuffed frostsaber kitten lookin thing on top of my computer"
"o great, a wow nerd"
Nevermind my previous post
I totally agree with you on the folly of tanks. How many times have I heard something like "OMG Accursed go tank". Trying to explain to them then that they get focussed not because Accursed is a bad player, but because the other team isn't as stupid as to focus the 2000 HP Accursed with his ultimate ready rather than the 900 HP Puppet Master without any escape spell is always pointless. So annoying...

If you want all of the hero icons to show up without eventually turning into text, add spaces between them.
