Argumentation:
HoN is hard to learn. Every real (not having played Dota before) beginner is confronted with 60 heroes, 240 abilities, a huge amount of items and several game modes. This makes it confusing for new players. You have to play about 100 games to get to know most of heroes and items. But what beginner will keep up playing that amount of games, when losing nearly everyone of them?
- Okay - there is a n00b-tier. But this n00bs have more game experience than the real beginner. It is frustrating to lose every game.
- Okay - there is a mentor-program. But how many beginners get a mentor?
My suggestion is to create a tutorial where beginners can discover the content of the game step by step. Please consider, that you cannot completly avoid that a beginner plays against experienced gamers. But you can design this tutorial less interesting for experienced gamers.
Tutorial
Introduction:
The tutorial is seperated into 7 steps. Every step has its own achievements. If a player reaches the achievements, he can choose if he wants to stay in this step or moves forward to the next step. Stepping back is not possible. The current step can be shown in the statistics. You have to play a minimum of 56 games in the turtorial.
Every step can be interpreted as a single game mode. You can lookup for tutorial-games in the gamelist. Players above 1550 PSR cannot play tutorial-games. If their PSR goes lower than 1550, he can join tutorial-games again. Players have 5 minutes to chose a hero - this gives them time to read the skill-discrition of new heroes (remember, that these players are real beginners. They dont know counter-picks - so they wont wait the whole 5 minutes to chose a hero).
Stats are not recorded, to make it less interesting for experienced gamers. Heroes can be picked out of a fixed pool (Normal Pick Mode). You dont have to pass the tutorial to play the full game-content.

Please dont discuss any hero-balancing in the early steps. We are talking about real beginners. They dont know how to play the heroes.
The best way to learn the game: Just playing. But against other beginners and getting to know the content step by step.
I'm not sure this is the best Tutorial spec, but HoN needs a Tutorial more then any other feature.
I believe playing no-stats games is equal to this suggestion, and that already exsists.
No-stats games give equal if not more learning expierence in my opinion.
I think you are the only "No-Vote" - thats sad, cause it isnt about "no stats". If a beginner starts with just "no stats-games", he also has to handle the whole content and even will play against experienced players. The "no stats"-think is to avoid that good players join these games.
This suggestion is about getting to know the content step by step
Well, i haven't voted yet, since i don't dislike this suggestion.![]()
Tutorial mode eh? can be better, but I like the idea, starting to play HoN, the same with DotA is waaaaaaaaaay too complicated for truly begginers. I support any idea to help them to learn without ppl telling them "WTF! are you retarded!? idiot!! noob!! leave now!, kick him!"
Yes for a tutorial mode but I don't think that this is the right kind of tutorial. Although I do agree about using the easy heroes at the start.
OHH YEAH, i dont know if this is the best solution, but HoN needs TUTORIAl, i made a post 4 months ago: "HoN tutorial" , but ....
bump this
popular suggestion: what was the hero that died? -> http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/sh...ad.php?t=63161
This is the best implementation of a tutorial mode I've seen yet. The only changes I'd make would be to phase in game features as well as heroes and items. For example, you could have neutral creeps and runes show up at stage 3, Kongor show up at stage 4, denying become available at stage 4, and superfluous base structures (Meatball et al.) show up at stage 5. Whenever a feature, hero, or item becomes available at the beginning of a stage, a page pops up explaining how they work.
Also, as a minor point, you should allow above-1550 players to join if they're invited by the host. This allows people to teach their friends in tutorial mode.
This sounds nice. I will think about and maybe edit/update my suggestion.
Mhm ... the aim is too avoid, that beginners play against experienced players. And this function can be used as a backdoot fot exp. players, to join the tutorial. If someone has some kind of mentor, they can play regular n00b-Tier games.
it would be nice to have quest like "catch a hero with devourer's hook", "catch 3 heros with tempest ulti" or something like that
Okay ...
In my opinion there is no need to introcude Runes / Kongor / Dening step by step. Those belong to the basic gameplay. Players should experience these things from the start. Althoug i want to keep this tutorial as easy as it could be to implement in the game (no extra Videos, Text and so on - even this would help to understand the game).
But i edited this suggestion - see 5 Minute Picking Countdown.
