- v1.3 - (Dec 18, 2009) - Corrected a couple inconsistencies with the code when searching for an optimal server. Also updating for game version 0.1.62.0.
- (Dec 16, 2009) - No code change. Updated .s2z version.
- v1.2 - (Dec 15, 2009) - Changed the way it connects to the server. Now it automatically picks the lowest pinging server, connects to it, then launches the game without any further button presses for you.
- v1.0 - (Dec 8, 2009) - Release, duh.
What does it do?:
This is a smarter, more efficient and user-friendly server selecter/browser. You specify your preferred region and it will select the lowest pinging server for you. This created while working on another mod, but I thought it was good enough to make it a stand-alone mod.
PLEASE NOTE THAT I CAN NOT ADD ANY REGIONS -- THEY ARE SUPPORTED/MANAGED BY S2!!!!

USA - All
USA - Central
USA - East
USA - South
USA - West
Europe - All
Germany
United Kingdom
Netherlands
Japan
Australia
Indonesia
South Africa
South East Asia
Known issues:
None that I am aware of at the moment.

Automatically finds the lowest pinging server within your specified region. It connects and launches the game when it has decided on the best pinging server! (IP was removed from the screenshot, but it does display)

Mods (*.honmod files) go into the game\mods sub-directory of your HoN install (which will be created when you first launch the program). Any mod files in that directory that are compatible will automatically show up in the program.
The default locations for this directory are:
Windows: C:\Program Files\Heroes of Newerth\game\mods
Linux: /home/<username>/HoN/game/mods
Mac:
1. Press Finder
2. Press Applications
3. Right click 'Heroes of Newerth', and press Show containing files
4. Open Game folder
5. Open mods folder
6. Move *.honmod files here

To install, put the resources079.s2z file into the game/ folder.

Very nice! Seems to also save your preferred region, so that's good.
One suggestion. Can this be automated? Instead of clicking connect and then create, can you change it so that all you have to do is click the create game button on the main screen and it automatically picks the lowest ping server and creates? If you can, that would be awesome. However, I do suggest keeping this version as well since some people might want to know what server they are connecting to before they actually connect to it.
Either way, this is a huge improvement on the current system. Excellent work.

It will be worth the wait. I was hoping to finish it up tonight, but I ran into a couple snags with this one (and wanted to play a game). If all goes well, I should have it done tomorrow or Thursday.

Still thinking making it fully automated is better. This mod doesn't make the process that much faster or easier than S2's method. I do like the setup better though so that's why I'm using it.
Btw, wanna request a number and make an .s2z version so I can put this in mods subforum?

Can you add 'Europe - All' to the region list?
Not likely. I can only think of one possible way to do it and it would be very, very inconvenient for the user to the point that it would be a moot point.
There is a 'Europe' selection already provided by S2 (which is where I got the filters from)
US is easy because "USA - All" is essentially "US" and works because "USA - Central" is "USC" and "USA - West" is USW. The commonpoint is "US" -- However, all filters for different countries throughout that region don't share similar filters to use a "catch-all"
So, any updates on when this new secret mod your working on is going to be released?
Got home from work on Thursday and absolutely 0 motivation to mod... I still sat down and tried to, but wasn't very productive until later in the night. Hit a bit of a snag, but eventually plowed through it. I'll be busy today and tomorrow, soooooooooo ... maybe Sunday or Monday?

With this notation in the patch note, I can: Updated regional filter to include Europe - All, this query includes EU, DE, NL and UK locations.
I'll have it in the next version.
