Now that you cannot build anything with it (Steamboots change), what's the point of it now? It is more expensive than any of the focused recipes for STR, INT, or AGI. At 540g, you basically cannot buy it first in a 5v5 normal game unless you have a source of health regen from your own spells or from your lane partner. 63g left will only buy you a mana pot or a Minor Totem.
Reduce Cost:
Going by the prices of the focused recipes (+STR being considered the most valuable), the Major Totem should cost somewhere in the middle (485g).
Change to Recipe:
If the cost is to remain the same, being a beginning item, it should at least be as easy to obtain as the focused stat items and should become a recipe of lesser items. Just to keep the theme of totems, combining four Minor Totems (212g) + Major Totem Recipe (328g). This way, you can start with components of a Major Totem and still be able to carry some regen with you. This also serves the purpose of not having to throw away minor totems when you aren't going to build an Astrolabe. Given the high, early cost benefit of Minor Totems, this change would make the item popular IMO.
Make a component of a new Recipe:
Squishy heroes will usually go with two stats items to raise their hit points. Whereas beefier ones usually go with one, so an item that combines into a larger recipe should be aimed at squishy heroes who would normally pick up two STR bracers.

A sort of ultimate orb that is there simply for the stats and not to build into anything bigger. Would be a nice item for hybrid types that need all 3 stats. (perhaps someone like pebbles).
I would see int heros still going str bracer as it is 6 str for 510 gold vs 10 str for 950 gold.
I think it would be a nice item as it is too costly to get something such as an ultimate orb(blessed orb in hon) when you just want a bunch of stats. The +3+3+6 items are really the only cost efficient items to accomplish this at the moment.
So why not build this into an ultimate orb and make the difference in stats to item cost, the recipe cost? It's a progressive build up instead of 2100 then.Originally Posted by Morg

Why not remove ultimate Orb and make the recipe Morq suggested. Myb that way people will actually make a Frostwolf.

The point of Major totem is supposed to be a component for future recipes -- not something you'd get on its own. Leave it as is IMO
