    Delay mode for spectators

Essentially, a lot of competitive games aren't streamed because there aren't any real delays on xfire, livestream etc.
There's a risk for ghosting, in other words.

Why not add a Delay mode to the spectator interface?
What I'm thinking is an option to watch the game, though delay it by X seconds. It will allow spectators to stream/cast games live without any risk of ghosting, and if you can change how much delay you want different tournaments can simply have a "Streams need a minimum of 5 minute delay" for example.

    TL;DR:
-Option for spectators to watch games with a delay
-Option to specify how much delay you want

It's not mentioned anywhere, but it's obvious that the host will decide the delay.

    Random info:
The Devs have touched on this subject before. They're thinking about a 6min delay (the time on wards). But that was for a bigger project, when people can join any game as Obs any time.

I voted yes, however the suggestion is moot simply because as RenoFox stated, S2 has already said they are planning on adding a feature similar to this eventually. However, right now it's not top priority.

    Nice idea, T-up and Yes

Definitely needed and I think it's just a matter of time to be honest. With the recent changes to spectating it looks like they're very serious about improving spectating and that's good for the competitive scene(and anyone really).

Hopefully aye, whether they are working on the bigger obs. project or not, having this would solve a lot of issues for (I believe) not too much work, even if it's merely temporary.

I'm sorry but what is ghosting?

Ghosting is a term that describes spectators (or people sneaking around in a LAN...) who'll reveal information to one team that otherwise wouldn't be available.

For example "/w jungling Legionnaire Get back, 3 heroes are coming at you from top lane". The poor man's maphack.
When you play tournaments where the prize pool is in 100's of dollars, you can't risk people cheating.

Spectating and tellling one of the teams where the other team is or what they're doing.

More delay the better... even 6 mins ghosting could still be slightly useful just not as much. Yo this guy is stacking ancients top. But its almost negligable in a true competitive game.

This is a good point, I was thinking just a 2 minute delay but when it comes to ancient stacking, item building, and foresting, 10 minutes would probably be best..

    Love the idea

    Hi all,

As i come from a small HoN community located at the southernmost tip of Africa, we dont get alot of exposure to the best of the best. Back in the days when i played dota, we had a local server running with about a second delay because of the bad netcode that W3 had. now that we have HoN we are able to play against international competition with less lag that the local one! LOL!
Unfortunately we still really only have one ISP so the bandwidth has become a prob for most ppl here.. (although recent patches have considerably reduced the cap used per game)

Long story short, Theres about 50 000 peeps in the Republic who would love to view Live streaming of pro games! And im pretty sure that theres alot more across the globe, that share similar issues.

PLS PLS accomodate this feature into HoN!

6 minutes is long but logical. 10 minutes is ridiculous. you might as well just download the replay after the match is over.

but anyway, this is a good idea.
