There is a looooooooooot of this being demonstrated in this thread. While I may not agree with the fashion in which shamz and the other pro players are presenting their arguments, their point about actually playing in the 1% of competitive matches is really being taken for granted. While I do appreciate that someone doesn't have to be highly rated to have a valid opinion, but there are way too many 1500 players here acting like they fully understand the effects on the metagame and in what manner it affects competitive play. If you don't play this game at the highest level...don't act like there's some reason you're not there, other than lacking the skill that these players have, this thread really has gotten entirely out of hand from self-inflated ego's (to an extent on both sides, but at least one side of has some sort of justification). I would make a reminder to try and keep things civil, but it seems like a waste of time at this point.

For people arguing that being a pro player doesn't mean a person knows more about playing the game is ridiculous. This isn't a game which requires physical skill. Your ability to play is almost entirely based on knowledge of how to play the game. I don't get why people who aren't competitive players are acting like they know more about playing this game than competitive players. While theorycrafting and all that is great, and damn, those people that do awesome number crunching analysis about item vs item in situations, etc. are awesome (and I have tons of respect for), it is not the same as playing the game at the top level. At least that's why I (a non competitive player/scrub) tend to agree with the pros.

Your logic is flawed. One does not have to be skilled at a sport to thoroughly analyze it. Those who play the game will likely see it from a different perspective, but a different perspective does not make that perspective correct.

Depends on the sport/game. I'd argue that HoN is closer to a game of chess than a physical sport, and I've played some chess, but me offering any insight into a professional match would be idiocy.

Chess actually just suits my opinion even more so... no degree of physical fitness is required to play it, so the game comes down entirely to analytical skill. An avid player and a professional player may see the game from different perspectives, but with enough study and observation, the avid player can provide just as much feedback on any given aspect of the game.
