    Treasure HoNt #1 [Cancelled]

Today we are proud to announce one of the first, if not the first, pay-to-play tournaments for Heroes of Newerth. The concept has been extremely popular in other games and genres, and it's surprising we have not seen more of it in Newerth. The idea is simple: every team pays a small sign-up fee. All of the money goes directly to the prize pool and will be split between the top three finishers. It's cheap, it's fun and there's money on the line!

Tournament dates: Thursday 23nd and Friday 24rd of August.
Sign-up starts: 20:00 CET, Sunday 19th of August
Sign-up ends: 17:00 CET, Thursday 23nd of August

    Schedule:
    Day 1 (Thursday):
    - Groupstage /w 4 teams in each group.
    - The teams play the other teams in their group one time in a Bo1 matchup.
    - Round 1: 19:00 CET
    - Round 2: 20:15 CET
    - Round 3: 21:30 CET

    Day 2 (Friday):
    - Single elimination Best of 3 bracket.
    - Quarter-finals: 19:00 CET
    - Semi-finals: 21:00 CET
    - Finals: 23:00 CET

If less than 16 teams sign-up the tournament format will be changed from group stage and playoffs to only a playoff bracket. The tournament times will more or less remain the same, however.

    Sign-up
For this tournament there is a entry fee of $ 25 per team. All of the money will be added to the prize pool.

To sign-up you must do the following:

    1. Send a mail to TreasureHoNt@Gmail.com with team name and lineup (five players)
    2. Pay the entry fee via Paypal to TreasureHoNt@Gmail.com
    3. As soon as we have received the payment your team will be confirmed for the tournament.

    Prize distribution:
    1. 60 % of the prize pool
    2. 25 % of the prize pool
    3. 15 % of the prize pool

    Donations:
The tournament is open for donations. All of the donated money will be added directly to the prize pool together with the sign-up fees. Donations can be made to TreasureHoNt@Gmail.com at Paypal. We appreciate the support!

    Streamers:
Since we are allowing everyone (with delay) to stream this tournament, there will hopefully be various players and casters doing so. We will make a list of available streams when the tournament starts.

    Admins:
    Megabever and DawZ_

    Signed up teams:
    Confirmed payment:
    Waiting for payment:

    Rules:

    Tournament administrators
    - Tournament admins are allowed to overrule any of the rules found below and will have final say in all matters. Ignoring an admin's instructions may result in a disqualification.

    Players and teams
    - All competing players and teams are expected to behave in a nice and mannered way. Flaming, trashtalking and similar bad behaviour can result in disqualification and/or a ban from future events.
    - All competing players have to play on their main accounts. You are not allowed to play on a sub-account.
    - Players are only allowed to play for one team. If your team is knocked out of the tournament, you are not allowed to continue playing for another team.
    - Every team will have five players signed up. Additionally you can use two ringers. It is required that you inform the admins if you are going to use a ringer.

    Scheduling
    - The tournament will commence at a set time, during which all teams intending to participate are expected to be online and ready to play.
-A general, tentative schedule will be posted with the approximate times of when each round should start. Teams are free to play next rounds if both teams are ready.
    - The group stage of the tournament will be played on day 1. The playoffs are scheduled for day 2.
    Pre-game
    - No observers or referees are allowed in a match unless they are match admins or shoutcasters.
    - If a team does not show up for a match within 15 minutes after the designated start time they will automatically forfeit the game.
    - If a team only has four players ready within 15 minutes after the designated start time they are allowed to play 4on5. If they are less than four players they will automatically forfeit the game.

    Server selection
EU vs USE - roll for USE/EU host (team who lose roll will host for best ping)
EU vs USW - play on USE (EU team host for best ping)
RUS vs USE - play on EU (USE team host for best ping)
RUS vs USW - roll for USE/EU (team who lose roll will host for best ping)
USE vs USW - play on USS/USC/team who lose roll will host for best ping
AUS/SEA vs EU - Play on USW (EU host for best ping)
AUS/SEA vs US - play on JPN (team with higher ping host match)
South America vs EU/USE/USW - play on USE (team with higher ping host match)
RUS vs SEA - play on USW (RUS team host for best ping)

    - International teams with players from various regions have to find the most suitable and fair server for both teams. If the teams can not come to an agreement, an admin will decide server.
    - In a best of three matchup where server selection is decided by a roll, the teams will alternate server for game two and three.
    - In case of huge ping difference, admins can overrule the server selection rules.

    - In a best of three series the teams will roll for game 1, and then swap side and pick for the next games.

    In-game
    - No hero restriction
    - No item restriction
    - Backdooring allowed
    - A team can pause the game for a maximum of 10 minutes. After 10 minutes the team have to play on, even if they have players disconnected.
    - The opposing team is not allowed to unpause, unless the pausing team refuse to unpause even after 10 minutes.
    - A team wins if the opponent passes a concede vote or if the opponent's primary structure (World Tree or Sacrificial Stone) is destroyed.

    Post-game
    - After every game, the teams must report the score and match ID to one of the designated admins.

    Streaming
    - Players are allowed to stream the game from their perspective as long as they have a six (6) minute delay activated.
    - Shoutcasters are allowed to cast the games in the tournament as long as they have a six (6) minute delay activated and they have been allowed by the admins to cast.

Questions regarding the tournament can be directed to our email (TreasureHoNt@gmail.com), to any of the admins in-game, at our in-game channel (/j Treasure HoNt) or in the comment field below.

Far too early to start on a Thursday. (Thursday is a working day)

Make it a weekend tournament? (Fri & Sun since Saturdays is social day?)

Also would you permit teams to sign up 6 players instead of just a core 5 ?

Thursday and Friday were our best options since we don't want this to crash with DreamHoN nor It's Gosu. I know Thursday is a workday, but I believe people make it home by 19:00 CET. And with ringers allowed, teams would be able to replace the one or two guys that have to work late.

In the future we'll find a more suitable time of the week, like Sunday from ~14:00 CET to 22:00. After all Sunday is the gaming day of the week! For now, though, given the reasons mentioned above, Thursday and Friday will have to do.

Yes, you can sign up with six players. You're allowed to use a total of 7 players for the tournament. I will rewrite it in the rules so it makes more sense.

Thanks for the feedback. We're aware of the somewhat poor set time and date. Nevertheless we hope to get some teams signed up so we can test out this new tournament type.

And you should offer an option where if there isnt 20+ teams say, people get their money back, so they know its a safe investment =)

20+ teams for a P2P tournament, first round, seems like quite the number. But I guess there could be a limit of 8?

We will cancel the tournament and give the money back to those who signed up if we get less than 8 teams.

Haha indeed, 20 teams is quite the number, but the point of principal is the same, it ensures a safe investment

This will never work, HoN scene is too small for this type of thing tbh. For this to work you'd need a mass player base. Just my two cents, I mean like only 30 teams signed up for its gosu open right? And that was free to play, anyone can play for fun with their buds..

The its gosu open wasnt very well advertised. Plus teams like coL etc didnt bother signing up. I guess dreamhon being on at the same time kind of put off teams from participating.

I think this p2p tourny could work very well, but with it limited to 8 or 16 teams

Definitely not paying to play in a tournament and if everyone else starts making tournys pay to play then there will be a lack of teams to compete

    I like the idea.

There are just too many tournaments going on atm.

ya this is counter strike, black ops, there just isnt the player base plus every team rely s on there sponsors to pay there way
