Core Pool as a switch instead of a game mode.

    Hi!
My suggestion is quite simple. It consists in making Core Pool a switch that can be combined with the other game modes, instead of having Core Pool as a mode itself. For example, Core Pool would be turned on if you want the 40 hero pool and select "All Random" as a game mode. Being the opposite, Core Pool would be turned off if you want the full hero pool and select "Banning Pick" as a game mode. Basically, it would become a switch like the "Verified Only" option, which can be turned on or off. Thus, making it possible to play a "Single Draft", "Banning Pick" or "All Random" mode with the new 40 hero pool instead of having a forced "All Pick".

    Thank you for your time.

Edit: In the spirit of reducing waiting times, if a player doesn't care whether he plays Core Pool or not, maybe this switch could have a third option where Core Pool and non-Core Pool games are considered. Pretty much like what happens with the "No Leavers" option on the Public Games tab. If you leave it blue, both options are considered.

    Agree 100%.
I wish I could play core pool exclusively but since the only mode you can use it with is AP I was disappointed. Core pool is great and I would love to be able to play SD and BP and even AR with core pool heroes only.

Thank you for the awesome feedback!

But we need some more input to get this to the next level, I believe.

One aspect of core pool all pick is designed to take into consideration a quicker match-making time, and since this is such a critical piece behind the core pool focus, I don't know if an idea like this would go well with what you desire.

Of course core pool generates other appeals like classic appeal, less OP variety hero appeal, Dota-feel appeal, professional appeal, and so on....

The idea is a nice idea, and people seem to like it, but keep in mind that the HON interface seems to focus on simplicity, and when users have too many different switches/categories to choose from, the hit will be felt in match-making time as well as coding frustrations/designs.

As HON continues to evolve and gain popularity (even professional appeal nowadays), it is going to be really important for their coders and staffers to pick and choose what features to lay on the gamer's pane.

Space is limited, time is of the essence, and pleasing everyone would be great!

You can play Blind Ban mode on Core Pool if you are "lucky enough" to get the bugged 3v3 map. You'll easily figure if it's it,if in the beginning you hear "Mid Wars" and then you'll get Hidden Banning Pick. Even though,it's not intended to be working like that, it's fun

I understand your concern but I beg to differ. The third option addresses that issue. If a player doesn't care whether he plays Core Pool or not, that third option would allow him to find the quickest match possible. It means he would have 50% chance of playing a Core Pool game and 50% chance of playing a Full Pool game, since both options would be acceptable matches.

As I see it, this switch would be no different from any other switch already in place. Green thumbs up to play with a 40 heroes pool and red thumbs down to play with the full pool, which seems pretty straight forward. The suggested third option, in which the player doesn't care if he plays Core Pool or not, could be gray (to have some similarities with the "option disabled" sign). Or perhaps the blue color already being used in the Public Games tab? I'm sure the designers would find an awesome way of communicating this idea in a cohesive and straight forward manner. But of course, its behavior can be explained when your mouse is over it, like it happens with everything else on the interface. Therefore, I don't think that would be a big of deal.
Yes, this would take some work, but I believe it would make the game feel more polished. Because, as it is, I can't think of a reason for the 40 heroes pool not to be used in a "All Random" type of game.

But please keep in mind, this suggestion is not to discuss whether you agree or not with Core Pool itself. Nor if you think that they wasted precious resources developing it and that they should move on to something else. The fact is that Core Pool was released and I think there is room for improvement.

Edit: Or maybe, instead of having 1 switch with 3 options, maybe there could be 2 switches with 2 options. One for Core Pool (which would have the thumbs up or thumbs down option) and another one for Full Pool (with the same options). They both could be on at the same time if the player doesn't care if he plays Core or Full Pool. It could become the 2nd step in the interface with the title "2. Choose your heroes:" and make the verified explanation show when the mouse is over its button. I think there are a lot of ways of doing it. But the fundamental idea, is to be able to combine Core Pool with the other game modes.

Completely agree. Selling Core Pool as a """Mode""" is a low marketing attempt from S2 and should, instead, be a switch.
I hope someone with authority inside S2 reads this suggestion, recognize the mistake, and do the right thing.

I believe this has met the requirements to be moved to Tier 1
