Hello forum,
I have been getting weird fps spikes while playing hon lately. It will start out at around 30 at the start of the game, drop to 20-25 during laning, then maybe 10-15 during big team fights. In the middle of all this, the fps will spike up to around 80 for 2 seconds, then drop back down, then spike up again after another 15-20 seconds, then drop etc. It will continue to spike and drop throughout an entire match. This was all happening at medium settings so I lowered the graphics to lowest possible and experienced no change in fps and the constant high fps spikes still happened.
Some specs of the lappy:
-Win7 premium 64bit OS
-intel i5 2450M (2.50Ghz) quad-core
-8gb ddr3 memory
-Radeon 6630m gpu
This scenario is very frustrating because my old lappy can run hon smoother (actually better in some cases) at the exact same settings...
Some old lappy specs:
-Win7 premium 64bit OS
-intel pentium dual-core (2.20Ghz)
-4gb memory
-no dedicated graphics card (integrated graphics)
I realize that the 6630m is not a very fast gpu (485mhz), but I thought that the 6630m (in combination with the quad core) would be able to have a decent edge over a pentium combined with integrated graphics found in my old lappy. Hon is the only game that has this problem, games like arma2 and css can run very smoothly on low-med graphics (arma2 and css can't run on the old lappy). I didn't think that hon was that much of a demanding game...
I tried using the open GL and that did not fix the problem.
Thanks for taking the time to read this. Any feedback or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I have a fairly new comp as well, just after the recent patch i started getting fps drops/spikes. Ping is fine.
I found some interesting information regarding this topic. My laptop has switchable graphics, between the Radeon 6630m and Intel HD 3000 integrated graphics. Since this technology (switchable graphics) is fairly new, it creates problems with older games. The Radeon 6630m is apparently only compatible with games that run with DirectX 10 or DirectX 11. Since HoN runs with DirectX 9 or OpenGL, HoN does not recognize the that there is the Radeon 6630m in the system, and reverts to the integrated Intel HD 3000 graphics, which explains the poor quality when playing HoN. I tried disabling the Intel graphics through device manager, but HoN wouldn't even launch, which proves that it doesn't recognize that there is a Radeon 6630m in the laptop. The manufacturer of the laptop is yet to release a driver or patch that allows the Radeon 6630m to be backwards compatible with games that run with DirectX9 or OpenGL. The fact that any dedicated graphics card not being backwards compatible is just ridiculous in my opinion.
I have the exact same problem with my computer.
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU Q6600 (2.40 GHz)
RAM: 4,00 GB
Win7 64-bit Ultimate
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512
Playing with the lowest graphics possible, I'm talking Minecraft graphics here. The FPS will still drop all the way to 10 in the big team fights.
Windows 7 Ultimate - 64 Bit
Intel Quad Core Q6600 2.4GHz
4 GB RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GT w/ latest drivers (version 301.42)
Unless I'm playing on the lowest settings, I get extremely bad spikes during the game where my FPS drops to between 1-5 for a period of like 2 minutes, making the game completely unplayable.
This happens on Medium and High settings, and was never a problem until the latest patch...
Also having this problem. I was running HoN perfectly fine up until last patch or possibly the one before and now i get a couple massive spikes early on and then often find the game freezing for a couple seconds during team fights. This is also accompanied by lower than usual fps throughout the game.
If you're running an nVidia (mobile) chipset, this issue should now be fixed.
If you're not using an nVidia card, please consult the section's stickied thread. It is highly likely that your current setup may require you to reduce the graphical settings of the game.
