Amazingly well written, Doesn't matter for how long you've played, you will most likely learn something new from this guide. T-up!
What the hell? Why is this guide not premium already? It's definitively what EVERY begginers want to read 1st before every other guides and also a nice refresher to the rest.
It took me a LONG while to find out by myself all the tricks n stuff... MAN I wouldave LOVED to have this guide.
Great job, really really great job.
MAKE IT PREMIUM BEFORE I POST THIS POST!!!!!
good guide, should be premium
Once upon a time, Sir Wookie found a motion ball. His fellow knights told him it was magic. They claimed it would reveal the location of the enemy, and he would be granted points when said enemies were slain.
Time and time again, his brothers implored him "Throw your magic balls at the enemy so we may sight and slay the beasties, advancing thy rank with free points!" But Sir Wookie refused, replying "Nay fools, I shall rest in these bushes by our birthing place and caress my magic balls!"
Hi,
Really interesting guide I must say =)
However there was this talk about armour and EHP that troubled my mindIn the later section you wrote:
B. Facts
- Armour does not stack with diminishing returns, but damage reduction does.
If 10 armor protects you from X amounts of attacks from a source with static damage then 20 armor protects you from 2x amounts of attacks.
It seems very contradictive to me. If damage reduction does stack with diminishing returns then how can someone with double armour take twice ammount of hits (...then 20 armour protects you from 2x amounts of attacks.")? I personally tried out this on a practice server. I had a pebbles with 10.08 armour and then let a lvl 1 chronos spawn and hit me. I timed until I died and it was approx. 57 sec. Then I bought a platemail giving me +10 armour = a total of 20.08. According to your latter statement I should now last twice as long? No, I only lasted 1:21 sec. Twice would've been 1:54 sec.
I know this isn't the most scientific test but the incomming damage is constant and I doubled my armour from 10 to 20.
Explain!
/cheers
(If anyone want's to replicate my experiment I used a lvl 14 pebbles with lvl 4 slab skin, and yes, I did spawn a new chronos since the one killing me the first time leveled up.)

Someone needs to make this guide premium...
Ryan Gosling is a boss.
No you misunderstood. Maybe it was a bit poorly phrased, what I meant was that if u can take x ADDITIONAL attacks when increasing your armor by y amount of armor, then you can take 2x additional attacks when increasing your armor by 2y.
For example, scout starts off with 4.94 armor. If he takes physical damage from a source whose damage is static, meaning always the same, and that damage is 85 he can take 9 hits if he is level 1 and didn't put into an attirbute. Now if you add 4.94 armor(5 armor) he can take 11 hits, increasing how many hits he can take by 2. If you add another 5 armor he can take 13 hits, increase by another 2. And so on.
Understand? Also it's not contradictive at all, you have to separate armor from armor reduction. In this sense armor never stacks dimishingly, each point of armor will increase the amounts of additional hits with the same amount as long as your hp stays the same, if it increase it indirectly increases your EHP via the armor you already possess.
I hope that cleared it up.

Update:
- Added a informational video showing armor mechanics in game.
- Reworked sections of EHP, added a graph and short comments about armor types.
- Reworked and clarifyed certain things about EHP that was poorly phrased due to SackJarrow comment.
Very solid guide, especially for those wishing to lift their game considerably. I'm writing a few articles, which you are more than welcome to use to incorporate into this!
Clarification for Orb Walking. As far as I was taught/read on DotA All-Stars forums back in the day.
In DotA, there were a large number of heroes with 'orb-like' Autocast abilities ala Silencer, Drow Ranger, Viper, Clinkz. Some of these heroes (Especially Silencer) had a very good attack animation. Thus you can utilize the orb-like autocast ability to throw a projectile, cancel the animation with a move command and effectively, attack on the run. Whilst a lot of heroes could do this without orbs, the autocast abilities made it considerably easier.
Excellent guide. A few grammar errors, but that's just nitpick.
A good read!![]()
Now?
Good guide, the shift thing really helped especially with magmus and similar heros

What about the merry-go-rounding after stacking (while ganking - whoever invented that must have been an idiot, sorry, the most stupid-sounding word in the universe)?
