Yeah that's what me and some friends thought as well for a time, when comparing it to HoN that we slowly got tired off. "It's different".
But as usual we slowly got back into HoN again.
Yeah it's a bit slow, last hitting is also kind of difficult and especially when the creeps group up.
Hard skill shots? I think that's got to do with getting used to the game. I presume you're talking about Ra's skills in particular right?
Yeah, in a 1vs1 scenario it ain't that easy to hit your opponent when he can see you and react to your movements. But when chasing or in teamfights or ambushing it's a lot easier.
