    Anime discussion

Post anything anime related, if you want we can make this official and go with my first idea, or we can just talk about animes in general.

Thoughts about ano hana? Manly tears were almost shed watching that shiet

Here was my first idea of making this thread
Here's what this thread is about, every we have two days to talk about a specific anime, then we can switch to another, if you're going to post something, have it be about the currently selected anime, give your opinions, thought or whatever you want, as long as it involves the anime.

The current anime we're talking about is Ano Hana

imb4 starting off with one of the best animes I've seen

Opinion -Really good anime overall, all I have to say, a manly tear was almost shed, please dont post any songs about this anime, I feel way too much nostalgia and makes me feel to cry

    After two days (or more)

I thought it was too strict so I just went with something easier

You guys can also have your top 10 animes in order
    For me it would be

    1. One Piece
    2. Fairy Tail
    3. Mirai Nikki
    4. Highschool DxD
    5.Kiss X Sis
    6.Dragon Crisis
    7.Bleach
    8.Kenichi
    9.Ano Hana
10.Sekirei (imo this anime should've been more like Kiss X SiS)

I always thought your CAI was something completely different, but after watching like the third episode in Nisemonogatari I was kind of surprised that Shinobu talked, along with Araragi bathing with her without being scared of Senjougahara being aware, off to episode 5 I go.

The weirdest version of Pokemon I've ever seen.

Also I still haven't finished Fate//Zero, but atm I'm watching Adventure Time anyways.

I've never been a huge anime fan. To me it's glorified cheap drama and a simplified art style. I don't see the appeal and don't understand the culture. It seems like the byproduct of an emotionally repressed society, and seems completely profit driven with little consideration for art. I have some close friends who are pretty into it though, so whatever.

But not every anime is drama. And simplified artstyle - simplified from what?

This may sound like a weak response, but it seems pretty true.. it sounds like you've not seen a good anime. A lot of them are cheap drama that let you explore plot that would be hard to implement with actors and special effects, and there's a demand for that. But many anime have extremely beautiful art to them with very talented voice acting and writing, the plot and depth can be extremely deep. There is certainly an otaku culture, especially in the west, and there is a large element that can appeal to 'repressed' people. There's also a problem of over abusing certain tropes in anime, being unnecessarily lewd, having cultural references that don't translate well, and more.

What I appreciate in anime are finite stories that don't traverse more than 25-50 episodes, something that will last me a while but come to an end. I appreciate good art, but it's not really demanded. I prefer to have very good story, but many anime plots have a fantasy or supernatural (sometimes in the form of futuristic) element to them that simply won't translate to non-animation, requiring animation - and I don't really want a book, I want the story to be told to me and for it to be more immersive and evocative. This is also what I like about video games, they feel similar to me. American cartoons rarely, if ever, fill this niche. Cartoons are nearly always presented as comedic or cater to a young audience. I like anime because it can use adult themes and approach them in a serious way while also not being limited to more physical constraints like real-life television.

You don't have to watch anime, though, it's fine. But, if you enjoy video games with very good plot, you might enjoy the better anime out there. I can't really say what to recommend (if you're even interested, which I doubt) without knowing some more particulars about your interests, but I have met the people who simply can't get into anime, which I find strange. Sometimes, we just can't get past our innate hang-ups.

Anime is much more than that, it makes you have feelz for the characters, any anime that make me cry or envy someone I consider it good, or if the anime is good in general

And this trailer has made me EXTREMELY anxious about the movie, Shinobu looks so OP

And god, I love Oshino's eyes

The only one of your posts I can agree with, and the last

Anime is generally watered down compared to manga/light novels/visual novels they are adapted from, though. I've actually avoided anime lately, only watching it with a friend who enjoys it, in favor of reading. Fate/Zero was pretty much the last indicator that anime just isn't doing it for me, because it was really the epitome of how good an anime can get yet still was nothing compared to the novel. Personal preference, I guess - I still watch anime but only one or two shows per season.

Anyway, it's hard for me to list my favorites since I've watched quite a lot, but I can easily say my all-time favorite is Haibane Renmei.

But apostate, if you would like an anime that is realistic, here's one http://anilinkz.com/series/anohana Even though this is somewhat supernatural, I think it also signifies something

Ano Hana is an example of cheap drama Apostate was just talking about.

No, there's good anime. I think Emiya is right, anime are typically adapted from the non-animated versions and don't often do them justice and are money grabs. Truly great anime is pretty rare, and I find myself watching less and less. Still, things like Trigun and Samurai Champloo still have infinite rewatchability to me and never fail to bring out the strongest emotions in me. And I enjoy anime that's only average every so often as well.

The key thing to take away from what I said was that I don't understand the culture. I was being deliberately provocative because I was curious what people would say.

What would you consider good anime? The only anime I have watched in entirety are Death Note and Avatar(not really anime), but I have watched episodes of Code Geass(sp?), Naruto, Dragon Ball Z, and this one about vampires that I can't remember the name of. I've enjoyed some anime movies, all the stuff I've seen by Hayaio Miyazaki has been great.

It's not like I can't stand watching it, but I completely fail to comprehend how people can be super nerdy about it. One of my neighbors is OBSESSED with anime. Posters on every wall, he watches anime all the time.

The main things that I dislike about it is the over dramatic style of everything. The characters make weird, unrealistic gasping noises. The men are very feminized, and the manly men are often portrayed as being very foolish or gruff, while the main characters are adorable prince-lings with unnatural looking hair. It seems like a culture designed to bolster the egos of effeminate boys who could never be their fathers. That's my honest and probably ignorant assessment.

The art style... It really depends. Maybe it's because I'm on the outside of it, but I view a cartoon as having a creative art style if it does something completely new. If someone made a cartoon in the exact style of Ed, Edd, and Eddy, I would think it was an uncreative and unartistic cartoon. Yet in anime it is considered a given that all of them look very similar. The faces have little variation. The hair is usually the same. The thin, effeminate body proportions are usually the same too. How am I supposed to consider this art? It's recycled material, a template. Again, my ignorant opinion.

I've never really made an effort to get into it, but I'd be curious what shows you would recommend. I would consider watching them.

So you were basically trolling? Reported

Anyone watches any of the new anime? Like Campione or Dakara?

And here's some suggestions for some good animes.
Fairy Tail - Not that smart main character, but badass when he's angry
Gosick -A mystery romance anime, you might find it intresting
Katekyo Hitman Reborn - Overly kind, nuff said
Kaichou Wa Maid Sama - Somewhat tomboyish girl, this anime is a complete romance, the characters are normal
Deadman Wonderland - *****es be crazy
And alot more, if you don't like any of these animes I have some bad news.
