Dear fellow HON players,
I've played and "enjoyed" this game since early early beta release. Ive been a fan of dota, dota2, I've tried LOL (didn't care for it) and played dota 1 since early release as well, and played competitively. In the past few months, I've struggled to enjoy Hon. I used to play support, but when you're KD suffers, you can't ever play a carry, and have to relinquish that spot to some moronic person who has a 1.1kd, and 30mins in is working on his ice brand, simply to try to appease the team. Then I said, screw it, I'll just carry, and try to ignore the team, carry as best I can, and ignore the thousands of 12 year old d-bags that bad manner, troll, and just generally ruin the game, through not only their attitudes, but their bad play as well.
Basically, my question to you is this.. How do people who have played this game for a substantial amount of time, progress through TMM, and how so they enjoy the game still? I'm not trying to flame s2, or the game, I guess I am pretty annoyed with the community, but I just really am at a loss. Ive spent months just tolerating the game and trying to understand what more I can do to enjoy it, and more importantly, succeed. The whole, "You're in the bracket you deserve to me in" Is honestly garbage, especially as of late with people just straight trolling and tossing games. I can't tell you the amount of games I've ganked, tp'd, won my lane, roamed to other lanes to try to help, maintained 400+ gpm, warded, etc, and still, as anyone who has done this too will tell you..you can lose..and you will lose..a decent amount of games. I'm honestly at a loss, and it really does bother me, because I used to really enjoy this game, and the progress I would see from it.
Tldr; how do you guys win games, and manage to deal with what seems like an abundance of trolls, and general d-bags in each game and community that seem to just hinder a game too much? this comes from someone who KNOWS how to play, has experience, and has tried many things.
Check my guide on TEAM MORALE here:
its super easy to solo q to 1650+, then you just need to queue up with friends and stuff if you wish to progress past that, unless you're extremely skilled/lucky.

I win games when I make less mistakes, I lose them when I make plenty. Sure, other players contribute to the outcome, but I try my best and never underestimate how much I contribute to a win or a loss.
I also don't mind my MMR too much. It's been sitting in the mid-1600s for a while, but I just celebrate every win and try to learn from every loss. ^^
Dealing with jerks, trolls, etc., is a part of the game and a part of life. Just do what you can with them around, and just always appreciate those who you can work with. :3
Edit - I have a few accounts I've solo Q'ed up to 1600 with. I believe I'm a 1600-ranked player because on every account I've gotten to 1600+ on, I've dealt with the same type of trouble makers on each journey, but I wasn't stopped!

My enjoyment of this game comes and goes. I have found that to enjoy Solo MM that you literally have to play for fun, not to win at any cost.
I am not saying do not try to win. However, if you run into the trolls/haters/etc, I just put them on ignore in chat and I ignore them in the game. I don't go out of my way to perserve the KD ratio for someone who yells at everyone in the game.
Team throwing the game? Try out that new item combination that you are unsure if it's feasible or better yet try out a hilarious item build (something like Bloodhunter with tons of lifesteal - actually somewhat effective depending on line ups, but not preferred). My favorite game is the one where my team is sitting in the base waiting for the enemy team to end it, while I counter push and save up enough money to carry and then turn it around.
One thing I recommend, which I should do more often myself is to add more people to your friends list. If you enjoyed playing with them or they played decently, bought wards or w/e say "gg sending you a friend invite" once you have a large amount of people on your friends list, you dont have to play solo anymore.
I don't know if this is the thread wherei should ask this question, but i currently don't know on which bracket i belong,at the first time i climbed to 1670 then falled down to 1550,then back to 1650,and then to 1500 and as many knows 1500 is the "black hole " i mean when u are there u "can't" possibly escape so i falled down to 1400,and know i am trying to climb to 1600 again,so guys on which bracked u think i belong and which hero should i use to climb to 1600.Thanks.

Hi OP.
Two things.
1. I played BNet DotA1 for a few years before this. I was a fresh noob so you can imagine the amount of smack, trashbag, noob, dog comments I received. So for HoN my skin is pretty thick. That helps a lot when I am solo-queuing. As annoying as the community is here at least you can report the mega trolls, and the 'normal' trolls are nothing compared to what I was used to. In DotA1, people just leaving was common or people who rage quit and hid inside the jungle trees the whole game, etc.
2. I am playing more and more games with friends. Some who are about my level and some who are worse. Either way, it's way more relaxing to play with someone you play with regularly because they won't troll you. Next time you play with someone friendly and halfway decent just try adding him and playing together. Most people don't mind at least 1 game team to see if it might work out.
I'm usually team solo mid player and yes , i suffered a lot of games when u won mid so hard then lose game so hard . So , i made a new account and did these steps:
1./ic : ignoring every faggot in game (if u queue with mates just use /fc)
2.In picking phase type : "SOLO MID".
3.NEVER ever expect your team to ward , just buy them yourself.
4.If u play soulstealer ( it happens mostly with ss ) don't rly care about team saying " MID Y U NO GANK" when u are still lvl 5 , just gank when u can get 1,2 easy kills otherwise push lane and farm woods.
Now things to work on so u can really improve your MMR now : BE YOUR ENEMY WORST NIGHTMARE IN MID , practise last hitting , ((DENYING)) PLS DON't FORGET DENYING ,RUNE-WHORING (general tip: push lane b4 rune spawns "ORLY") and if your hero has no nuke abilities , just auto attack.
Hope that was useful.
P.S : if u think that was crap , 1v1 son and u will learn something.

Katieee, why does your name color keep changing?
I've been playing HoN since 2011 or around there, but I sometimes goof off in some games, and it amuses me, but what really keeps me in the game is striving to be better, making bigger and bigger plays and meeting cool people

Probably 1500s. The thing about being a 1600 player is not just getting there, but being able to not fall back down to 1500. :P
Forum Mods can't use our maroon names in Match Making stats games, so I tend to swap it (GMs can, but we got a free sub account to make up for it). x)

What I've gotten from playing hon for so long is that the best you can do to win games is to try your absolute best. I do agree with the "You are in the bracket you deserve to be in" and here is my reasoning. I find people tend to forget "bad players" have a chance to end up on either teams and in the long run, if you have played enough games, is not a factor that affects your overall win/loss. The biggest factor is yourself! There will always be those games when no matter how hard you try or how well you do your teammates end up dragging you down. but statistically the OTHER team has exactly the same chance of having the same bad players. If you truly don't belong in your rating, after numerous solo Q games, you WILL get to where you deserve to be. You may not be able to save ALL the games you play, but if you are worthy, you will save more games than you lose.
Keeping HoNing my friend, you'll make it.
P.S (Having friends eliminates alot of the pain that comes from solo Q)
I've been playing some 1500 games recently not gonna lie there are so many people who don't speak English and go gg our picks suck or proceed to quad lane or feeed. Basically i pick a good mid carry hero (silo) and farm my ass off and gank i don't usually have wards either so i guess runes. If u can't play good mid carries so pebs/mk if u're good with them most smurfs that have like 80% win at 1800 play those heroes .
Well first off winning a game is heavily dependent on your team. I've seen some high ranking players say they just single-handedly rise in mmr by carrying their team the entire way... but in my super low bracket, I usually depend on another player to carry the game since I do not play the carry role well and because laggy computers make the game more difficult. You'll have to find a medium play style to match how the players in your bracket play. From then you'll be able to rise in mmr as you find ways to counter the common strategies in your bracket.
i enjoy the game by hosting no stat games and playing without giving a flying fck about stats or winning =)
If you have a general understanding of the game and claim to be able to reach 1650+, you cannot possibly fall below 1600 regardless of how much bad luck you think you have. It is statistically favored in your way to not have a troll/griefer. You have 4 random team mates, the enemy team has 5, so therefore a slight skew in your favor to always have the better team....That is implying that you are actually a decent player and not the one who is bad/trolling. Can't stress enough how important it is to look at your own mistakes instead of blaming the team. Your top lane is feeding? Go help them. Your support wont ward for you playing a carry? Go buy wards and upg monkey. Your team mate is trolling and feeding? Set to ignore, practice your last hitting/farming and get better so that when you join a new game, you will be a better player. Oh, and the last thing is to have fun. It is a game after all...
Some people don't progress through TMM but this game isn't about progression. You pretty much can't progress through TMM without some friends that play well to team with you. You can't solo every match and the PUGs are a russian roulette.
You can do like 70% of the work if you are MUCH better than your current bracket, for example, a 1900 player can do a big chunk of the ganks in a 1500 match, but even then it's not a guaranteed victory.
The only advice I can give you is: HoN is not about progression, it's like a sport, you play it for fun and, if you are really competitive, to be better than most people. You must try to find some friends to play with you so you don't have to deal with the community all the time.
