On ranged carries and also heroes like magebane it's totally worth it getting frostburn and then splitting it up in geobane and fws.
But i was wondering if it was still worth it building frostburn on, say, dark lady and then building fws from it (selling the red blade); or maybe should i just build fws straight ahead without getting frostburn?
i was wondering the same thing,but i see everyone making fburn and selling firebrand.don't know if it is viable

Excatly what you said. Frostburn and split it to fws and sell the fire brand as tdl. Why wouldnt it be viable if one of the best carry player does it in a competitive match?
make a geos from the firebrand?
for magebane geos is almost a must get since your illusions also mana burn, making your illusions considerably more powerful than regular geo illusions.
Well, getting a geo's AND fws AND rc AND health AND armor is near impossible as, if your farm is good enough, the other team has probably cc'd by that time.
However, selling fb on TDL is essentially burning 1100 gold. If you can, I'd rather just keep it for the agility. But that's my two cents.
EDIT: Silly me don't EVER build geo's on TDL.
why don't you just use geo then q/e?
both are really short cooldown spells anyways, lol.
geo's is a decent pickup on most carries. for tdl i personally don't get frostburn and instead go lifesteal since your q adds so much damage to add to lifesteal and you already have a slow from your w.
Because you charge in with q activated, now your buffed and hit like a truck but now if you activate geo ( to get illus onto decent range ) your buffs will be dispelled. I just get frostburn to boost mid game and it does it really well. Yes he have a slow, but imo the slow from fws is just too awesome to skip on tdl. You can slow the whole enemy team with 1 charge. It also allows you to chase so much better.
E: and I favor abyssal skull on tdl as a lifesteal.
