i would make a codex on ew rather than spellshards.
spellshard ew wtf ppl.
spells < frostburn --> bane+frost (best guide)
Spells its just 2575+1000+1000 = 4575
+525 more and u got geometers.
spellshards sucks.
You people talk like a 9% cooldown reduction is meaningful in most scenarios, like with emerald's short cooldowns. We're talking about -1 second on each of his abilities on average with maxed spellshards (4500g). If you really think hitting a little harder with your wolves and Q is worth it with those garbage stats I'm not really sure what to say. There's much better choices for a semi-carry, especially when her spells are mostly used for utility and not damage by the time you managed to buy spellshards + a regular carry item. Even with around 350 GPM it still takes you over 30 minutes to get boots, a decent carry item (say frostburn) and maxed spellshards and by that point you're not really doing any damage with your spells, and you're not really doing any damage with your autos either because spellshards have such crappy stats. Also, you'll have endless mana regen for a hero whose ult costs no mana at all, has a rather good int gain, and basically revolves around using 1-2 low cost abilities abilities every 10-20 seconds. Emerald is already a weak farmer, he really can't afford troll picks like spellshards on a normal game.
If you want to troll with warden, a codex is a much better choice though!

Codex is a horrible choice for trolling, you just get out of mana really fast and gives you a pretty negligable burst for KS'ing which Warden already has no problem doing lol. At least Spellshards gives you mana regen (just enough to keep Warden without mana problems), and your Q is already arguably a free Codex which Spellshards strengthens
now Tablet+Stormspirit+Pkey now that's some good trolling
But for the most part agree with what the rest of what you said, though Spellshards is still arguably nice because it lowers the cooldowns on Gawaiin's heal (level 11) and AoE magic damage nuke (level 16). Pretty negligable? Arguably. Worse than Codex? Hell no![]()

FOR ALL THAT IS HOLY~!
Don't worry guys, Lodestone won't be getting picked up in competitive, your balance forum regulars have assured it in this Lodestone balance thread ;)

Buut Codex + Silence shot + Wolves + Gawain oneshots squishies![]()
Best troll is red marchers and 5 hatchets, swapping each hatchet for a runed cleaver along the way
And that 3-4/5/6/7k you dump into that codex can get you a savage mace instead, which allows you to do way more damage in a teamfight, instead of just bursting down 1 player. or you can get a shieldbreaker or a frostburn or any other carry item to make you have a much larger impact on a teamfight.
lol my previous post was discussing ways of trolling with prestonlee. We all know shards/codex is absolutele rubbish on emerald; read the previous posts.
Why are we discussing a guide made by someone getting Striders, Nome's Wisdom, and Spellshards on EW?
Because that guide was obviously for trolling, and we are now discussing the best troll picks for EW.
I prefer Stormspirit for mana regen on EW. You can tornado someone, then cast a trap, and then get a guaranteed trap on them when they come down. It also gives movespeed, making you even faster.
The bonus to magic damage and the cooldown reduction isn't that useful for EW. It's okay, but there are better buys in EVERY situation, I'd say.

If im in a weird mood and bored with regular hon. Il go spellshards > codex > hellflower > harkons > possibly a nullstone in their somewhere. Of course this works better in casual mode.
