Yes. Sounds tasty.
No
Since many people liked to play e.g. Devourer Only in MidWars I thought this game mode would work pretty well in Match Making.
This mode is the democratic way to play "Only hero X" in MidWars, where no one can troll and pick another hero.
Phase 0 - Suggestion : 15 seconds~
This phase is optional, but the mode would benefit from it for the sake of variety.
You can use this phase to make suggestions if you want to have a special "Only hero X" match.
Phase 0.5 - Narrowing : 15 seconds~
This phase is optional and wasn't part of the original idea. Either way this mode could really benefit from it.
To narrow things down, you first decide on the hero attribute.
Otherwise you'd have to vote 3 out of over 100+ heroes, which won't have good results most of the time.
You vote for either the STR, the AGI or the INT category.
Note: This Phase was the idea of ChewyCat.
Additional: This Phase could contain a fourth option: Random! If the majority of votes (or the fate) decides for it, the system will choose a random hero and will go on with Phase 3.
In this picture you see the vote options at the top: STR, AGI, INT or RANDOM HERO.
Phase 1 - Nomination : 20 seconds~
Everyone can vote for 3 heroes (votes are hidden till the end of the phase)
In the following example you see a player voting for Flint Beastwood, Armadon
and Devourer
. (The Picture does not feature Phase 0.5, which would happen before)
Phase 2 - Final Vote : 15 seconds~
Everyone can vote for 1 of the most voted 3 heroes.
The hero with the most votes is selected for everyone.
In the following example you see a player voting for Devourerin the final vote, where Flint Beastwood
, Armadon
and Devourer
were nominated. (The Picture does not feature Phase 0.5, which would happen before)
Phase 3 - Preparation : 10 seconds~
Time to prepare for battle
Important notes:
- If there are heroes with the same amount of votes it shall be random which hero is chosen (in phase 1 and 2).
Unfortunately not everyone can be lucky with a democratic decision. So's dice shall decide the fate.
- UPDATE 07-17-12: There could be a simplified version for the Public Mode, where the Host decides alone, which hero will be chosen. The hero should be chosen before the game starts - when you choose the game mode, you also have to choose a hero - this would prevent hosts from griefing and changing aOnly game to a
Only game.
- UPDATE 08-16-12: Added two optional Phases 0 and 0.5 to the suggestion.
I hope you like this idea. Miss thoseonly times.
Please tell me, if you don't like parts of the idea or the idea at all.

bump
Hey man definately a good idea I also miss those duplicate hero games. Good work it's suprising S2 didn't do something like this to start with.\
looks legit. Defiantly supporting this :>
The problem with that one is, that a 5v5game will most likely rarely happen. I smell 90%
matches (Which doesn't mean they can't be fun).
But I think this system is the most fitting one for the Match Making system. There could be a simple version for public games, where the host can directly pick the "only Hero", without voting.
i never play midwars but not bad idea (STIL WONT MAKE ME PLAY MID WARS)
Only the dead have seen the end of war
What happens (although it would prlly rarely happen) if all 10 players select a different set of 3 heroes, resulting in those 30 heroes each having 1 vote?? Furthermore what happens to groups queueing in as five all select the same set of 3, and if the opposing team does the same?
try 5v5 artesia or 5v5 chipper.you will **** bricks.still, what happens if all the players vote different heroes?10 players, each 3 means 30 out of the 100pool
As I tried to say in my first post:
So in case in Phase 1 there would be votes for a total of 30 heroes, then it should be just 3 random heroes of these. If there are heroes with the same amount of votes it's random which hero is chosen (in phase 1 and 2).
The same case for the final vote, if 5 player vote A, 5 others B and no votes for C, then it should be randomed between A and B. I don't see another possibility to do it in Match Making. If people can't decide on their own - 50/50 votes - needs to be a solution and one has to draw the short straw.
Thanks everyone for voting so far, this suggestion can now go to Tier 1 and some S2 members will look at it.
Really like the idea, should make midwars 10 times more fun to play. I support this!
gud idea ! BUMP!
An article everyone got to read : http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/sh...ding-your-Game
Look like a well polished idea, i just feel like something is missing, dont know what though.
I love the idea!
However! What if we first have a blind ban? Pink and blue blindban 3 heroes each, then vote for 3 heroes each and then people vote for one of those 3-6 picked heroes. This would allow games OTHER than all armadon/all flint.
Another possible mode would be Two Random, where we first see a blindban for each side, and then legion and hero gets one hero randomed for their entire team (i.e. Legion blindbans flint, dev and behemoth, hoping to get artillery in the random, and hellbourne blindban flint, dev and thunderbringer because of bad experiences. The random then happens, with Legion getting Panda and Hellbourne getting Artillery).
Yes, I like this suggestion!
I suggested other modes in the topic I opened for midwars, if you're interested!
http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/sh...-Midwars-modes!

Take a look at my midwars modes suggestion! Vote and post!
I suspect a problem with this mode will be that if a hero gets the majority vote that some players REALLY don't want to play, then they'll just rage quit...
I agree that a dupe mode needs to be put in for MidWars but I'm not sold that this is the way to do it.
Despite what they would have you believe, HoN forum-goers are indeed just a vocal minority, <1700 mmr and more susceptible to confirmation bias than most normal human beings...

HoN is not DotA; and one extra key-press won't kill you![]()
I was afraid of this problem as well, but I really don't see another solution for this kind of mode.
Like I suggested in one post, there could be a version of this mode for public games, where the host is able to decide the played hero all by himself.
But this - democratic - system is in my opinion the only way for Match Making. If people are not happy with this way, or really want to play a certain hero, they should go for the public game solution.
So maybe differentiating in a MM and a Public mode, would do it for every player.
EDIT: I just added this to the Important Notes part of my suggestion.
