I like to get more carry oriented items like savage, crit, charged but you also need mana regen so hellflower is awesome.
I would get something like
psupply-steams-hellflower-nullstone-savage-charged-harkons
Icon of the Goddess can be a good intermediate item - you can sell it off once you get into late game for something else. Its reduced cost helps it as an intermediate item instead of a standard 5k+ gold item.

Look for my highlighted text (important information) and grey text (interesting but not required information).
PSupply->Steam->Icon (bonus INT for every kill)->HF->Null->Savage->Sheep/Harkons
I haven't tried it, but I think that's what I'd do.
i always go boots first on a carry
starting items would be tangos + mana battery + 2 totems to make the power supply. this should leave you with ~200 gold, so all you need are 4-6 creeps to get boots. Then, depending on their team, you either finish you steamboots or power supply/vestaments. Once you're done with those 3 you either go hellflower or null, null first if you need the protection from single target stuns and stuff. once you finish your hellflower you can go sheep then harkons and other carry items.
^^Consumables in MidWars!?!?!? Pshh! =)
power supply first item is the dumbest thing you can do, and leads to getting bloodlusted if they have a decent harras team. 5 charges of a power supply =/= 2 aluna power throws + 3 tb chain lightnings
Only time power supply might be alright is if they have an arma and dsham, then it might almost be justified, but even then, stick to the basic mana battery and just use it when it gets to 10 charges. tangos are great, hp pots are even greater as they let you run away, heal up, then go back in and clean up against lower hp heros.
