Fact of the matter, I also see quite a lot of underleveled / bad score heroes by the end of the game (the last vid I watched was a final and those who came second position had 3 heroes with 0 kill, something like 6-8 deaths and very low assists). They do understand how the game works better than the usual baddies I am teamed up with in my games though <.<

Really seems to me like it's characters that determine the player, not the other way around (which is sad).
First of all it's impossible for everyone to have a good score in a game. In order for someone to have a good, positive score other people have to have bad, negative scores.

Secondly, you need to watch competitive games more carefully. The differences between competitive players and pub players aren't things you can immediately see and notice. They're skills that are harder to pick-up and harder to notice such as positioning, map awareness, precision, warding, etc. Yes, what heroes you have is a huge factor in the game, and having a better lineup than the other team will give you a huge advantage. But in competitive Banning Pick games, knowing what heroes to pick and what heroes to ban takes skill and strategy, and is part of being good at the game. I assure you if you took a competitive team and gave them 5 average heroes, and took 5 decent pub players and gave them 5 of the most OP heroes, the competitive team would still stomp the pub team.

I've played DOTA like once, and I played DOTA2 quite a bit, yet there were several phrases he used that I've no idea about.

There's absolutely no reason to use the DOTA terms over the HoN terms, so why not use the terms you know everyone understand?
Sorry let me fix this for you. Shrunken head. Savage Mace. Jeraziah. Nullfire. Tempest. Elementals. Happy?

Not really, I'm still not sure about everything in your post but that's ok, I don't really care. Thanks for clearing up some of it anyway.

Seriously, about the comments on the competitive players, I did watch a lot of them, and every time it's the same. There is always a freaking polywog priest owning towers and winning the game. When they lose with poly, it's because they use the wards for hero kills instead of backdooring the towers like they do in other games. Same crap that happens in pub games. Why the heck aren't they banning polywog priest then if they're so pro? Surely they noticed the same thing I noticed since dota days that polywog ruins games every time he's picked and played decently?

I've seen "pro" end the game with 0/11/2 scores as characters I usually own with (revenant here). To me, the competitive scene is all about having 5 players that have communication and who practiced together and know how the game works. Put any 5 pub players that don't feed, understand the game, have them train together with microphones for a couple of games, pit them against "pros", and the only determining factor will be the heroes they picked.

There are overpowered / cheap heroes, despite what people think, and they are extremely easy to pinpoint as they are used almost every games, OR every game they're in, they end up winning the game (or failing if their not-so-op friends feed the other team's overpowered hero).

Valk Mag PWP Bubbles Glacius - my personal top 5 of heroes that have a "content rated OP" pass, they're OP, everyone knows it and nobody wants to nerf them. There are several others.

Some newer heroes that all came out broken to unbelievable levels:

Silhouette - "There are no immediate changes for Silhouette" - Pants-on-head-retarded OP when she came out, then she got nerfed 2-3 times, still OP, recently she took another nerf, still OP. At least it's on a saner level of OP now.

MK - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HFOVQxXmic0. Did you see that idra?? I'll show you one more time...I mean idra doesn't want to nerf it... it means it must be balanced right? nuff said.

Gemini and Tremble - I don't think any comments are necessary here
