I've been playing HoN for 4 months now, and recently started to use mystic vestments, but is it necessary EVERY game or is it just situational? Does it cover THAT much damage?
Yes it covers a lot of damage. It can make a difference to your survival. For example, if Pebbles is able to Toss+stun combo you would normally die. However, with a mystic vestments you will survive his combo with a small amount of health leftover.
I buy on on every game I play, I sometimes don't get it if the enemy has heroes like :Noma: so I just get sols/pleated greaves, but yes it is necessary 90% of the time, it does reduce alot of damage, and vestiments + powersupply = Big Plays. Vestiments can help you survive on 15 hp.

I buy it every game. Its only 8 creep and help to survive some combos or nuke from 2+ heroes.
No matter your hero, get it every single game.
Almost every hero has some form of pure magic damage and it will mitigate a good chunk of it.
When there is magic dmg in your enemies team get steamboots and vestment. Vestement makes only sense when you got 1k+ hp otherwise getting hp first makes more sense.
I always make sure to get vestement, and generally at some point shaman's if I'm tanking some, unless I'm up against a team of 5 armadons.

Vital on some heroes (namely devo), important on most, useless on the overpowered ones that can kill / farm better items in seconds and won't get damaged anyway
It's never an absolute, few items are. Just look at the enemy lineup and decide where the majority of their damage comes from. If it's arachna, scout, predator, pestilence, and andromeda, you might not need magic armor, physical armor would be more appropriate. If you're against wretched hag, magmus, slither, thunderbringer, and bombardier, magic armor, or even a headdress if you can afford it, would be a good pick-up. If it's mixed, you just have to use your judgement, but usually the 400 gold is worth it, at least early on where fights are very bursty. The vestment combined with a helm is a good early game defense.
arachna, scout, pred and andromeda deal magic damage too!!!!If i can deny an early kill from them with 400 gold item, then I don't hesitate!especially because they are carry(andro is support w/e)

It gives you 13.9% extra magic damage reduction, that's how important it is![]()
...
I'm trying to make a point. Yes they deal some magic damage, but they deal far more physical damage. It's possible to deny them a kill with the vestments, but you'd do a better job denying them kills at all points of the game with more physical armor, or just more hp. If you had unlimited item space and money, sure magic armor would help. But you don't, so against that team physical armor would be better every time...unless scout goes codex spellshards...which is unlikely.
If you don't already have them before someone gets it, vests directly counter spellshards. If the other team has any annoying magic damage based hero(es) get vests, saves you from worlds of hurt.![]()
Love the item it really is key for me in most games. Recently I was solo vs bomb and pred in long lane I was 0-2 in 8 min got my vestments ended up 7-2 when they conceded. That was the most key item to that win it really can make that much of a difference
Mystic + power supply = Crazy survivality early game.
Alter Ego
For power vestments to be worth picking up, you need a certain amount of HP first. No use reducing all magic damage by 40% when you have 600hp.
The number 1000hp was thrown around before on a topic similar to this (I think it was to do with armour maybe).
Generally on supports it's worth picking up as you'll be fortunate to make a Shrunken Head by the end of the game (if playing properly).

The number is actually ~1300 hp.
That's not to say that it's necessarily bad to get vestments at 1200 hp, or that you should buy bracers instead just because you aren't at the hp breakpoint. At least not if you will be getting many items and just quickly replace the bracers. As a ward *****, I'd say it's mostly better to stack the hp up to the breakpoint, as you won't get many items anyways -> you can afford 'wasting' item slots on bracers and you'll probably not get levels quickly -> your hp will be low without them.
so many people under 1500 where i play keep raging about others items 'after 20 min' but when u see their inventory they dont have mystic vestments against peb, mq, blacksmith team...
It makes a huge difference. If the enemy team has atleast 2 heros that have high dmg magic nukes in the early game definitely pick it up.
