I wanna see how OT makes their pokemon teams, I'm interested in pokemon online and want some ideas.
A table format would be nice
"Greenman101, spittin opinions like they're facts since '11 yo" -ZipperBear 2013
I don't play Pokemon online (I play regular Pokemon) but I'd recommend studying up on every Pokemon, their stats, their abilities, their types, and their move roster. Much of the meta is knowing your options and predicting what your enemy will do, and to do so you need to know exactly how hard your Pokemon can hit or your enemy can hit, or if your enemy will just plain switch out.
As for team building, you will find that Pokemon is much like HoN in that regard as many Pokemon serve a role on the team. There are lead pokemon (Starmie), sweepers (much like carry, ex Salamance), support (Bronzong), tank (Togekiss), revenge-killers (Pokemon that go in to finish weakened Pokemon)....
At the risk that I am sounding like a fool ask someone like Skelosperch for a better explanation, but much of Pokemon is knowing options, thus you must learn all the builds commonly used and why they are used.
*** Who is your favorite Pokemon? I can maybe use that to further answer your question.

Play in whichever tier has more pokemon you like. You like Parasect and friends? Play NU. You like Scizor, Tyranitar, Conkeldurr and etc.? Play OU.
That being said, I make my teams balanced. 1 support pokemon (usually Cryogonal for delicious Light Screen and Reflect bullshitting or Ninjask for getting pokemon up to speed), 2 special attackers, 2 physical attackers, and one staller (usually Dustox, Dewgong, or Cradily). If you're playing OU, you want at least one of the following:
Haxorus
Volcarona
Hydreigon
Dragonite
If you want a good support pokemon, I HIGHLY recommend Cryogonal.
My set:
Cryogonal
Timid nature
252 speed, 252 special attack, 4 special defense
Light Clay
Reflect
Light Screen
Ice Beam/hidden power dragon
Hail/hidden power electric
This lets you get some defense up for your allies, and you can also put out a ton of damage. Other options include maxing special defense and starting off with a reflect and then using LS.

When I would choose Pokemon from my box of better picks I would chose them in two groups of three to organize synergy among them. Much like you, Skeloperch, I would use this method to balance out my teams. ex: Empoleon > Gliscor > Gallade for Group 1. I found that as a helpful way to know if I was covering my bases well. Group two I was usually more lenient with, usually I'd have specialist Pokemon to throw the curve balls (ex: stallers, support) and my sweeper.
I guess in a competitive sense the purpose of Group 1 was to determine how the match will play out for my 2nd group to act.
*** The exact builds of said Group 1 was:
Empoleon
156 HP 252 Sp. Attk 100 Speed
Modest Focus Sash
Surf
Grass Knot
Aqua Jet
Ice Beam
Gliscor
252 HP 184 Def 72 Speed
Impish
Earth Quake
Roost
Taunt
Ice Fang?
Gallade
252 Attk 252 Speed 4 HP
Adamant with Choice Scarf
Close Combat
Ice Punch
Psycho Cut
Night Slash

I don't know much about Empoleon, but my friend who is MUCH better at bulky waters than me runs him with Swords dance + Aqua Jet.
That being said, Dewgong is actually useful (surprisingly). It's like Manaphy, accept it can be used in OU.

My choice of Empoleon was not so much because of the Pokemon's individual worth but how well it performs in my Alpha/Bravo grouping strategy. By all means feel free to use Dewgong, but what I am saying is that I'd pair him with maybe a Magnezone and Dragonite to have a 3-man team capable of handling their own. Personally I find it easier to build a team by 3's than by the whole 6.
This makes me realise how old I am. At the age the 23.
Pokemon was one of the things that I (somewhat sadly) never kept up with. Generation II for life.
Not that I do competitive stuff, but I had a decent (virtually) hand-raised level 100 team. Misdreavus, Tyranitar, Snorlax, (Red) Gyrados, Lugia, Typhlosion. I shall reiterate, Generation II. I never did bother building a hell on earth team, too much time sunk into Crystal at it was (Misdreavus/Gengar, Forretress, Blissey, Umbreon, Lapras/Snorlax, and one other git of your choice).
I had a memorable Battle Tower trio though. Mewtwo, Kabutops and Misdreavus. Seriously, Misdreavus n1 underrated Gen II Ghost-type.

Game Freak would simply just sell pokemon on another system if Nintendo tried to boss them around. I mean, both are on good terms with eachother, but GF aint gonna take no ****.

Nintendo does not. Game Freak does. Game Freak also created Yoshi, so both companies go back quite some time. Game Freak is more of a third party company, seeing as how Game Freak can develop for any system they want, but they mostly develop for Nintendo seeing as how they would reach the largest audience through them.

If Nintendo owned Pokemon we would of seen B/W 2 on 3DS. B/W 2 would have upped 3DS sales

When I play Pokemon competitively I seem to always go back to pokemon I love instead, so my team ends up usually being some sort of ungodly hybrid of competitive and sentimental.
