Valve is a giant corporation and S2 is small developer. One has huge resources while the other doesn't. Valve can easily afford to do this but S2 can't. Where would S2's income come from if all heroes are free? Part of the income right now comes from people who buy access to the heroes they really like (or they can unlock with silver). Do people have to buy them all? Not really since you won't always played them all. S2 will soon be having 30 heroes up from the 15 and that's great news. You can go a week by playing each hero at least once and you wouldn't get bored so not having the entire list doesn't affect you at all since the selection of hero is chosen to fit all styles and potential hero lineups. This month I don't think I even played 30 different ones so someone having a limited list isn't really a big deal to be honest. If I didn't have the full selection I'd probably unlock like ~10 I really like and if Dota 2 was the same way it'd be the same thing.
Lol how is HoN P2W? You can kick ass with Pebbles which is in the current list of heroes to play just as much as you could with Moraxus which isn't in the list and you could kick ass with Bramble too if you wanted but neither of them pose an advantage. Idiot argument tbh.
Edit: You could kick more ass with Pebbles than those other two since Pebbles is easier so there you go. End to your senseless argument.

S2 couldn't afford to go the same route as Millikin said. But S2 is gonna give 30 heroes instead of 15 soon which is really good. As someone who plays less than 30 games a week I'd probably not even go through each one if I had a regular account. If someone really likes a hero there's always the option of unlocking it through purchase or silver (not sure if that's the case, can't verify right now). The selections are fairly balanced when it comes to the amount of support, initiators/tanks and carrys you get so there's no downsize in it. Most of the time someone would probably not even play all 30 of them, maybe just 5 which they'd probably still play if they had a full list. It's not pay to win either since you can kick ass with the selection you get just as much, if not more, than with what you get for free during that week.

Valve is one of the richest gaming companies. They can afford it. S2 can't.
Compare HoN with other moba games at the HoN Rosetta Stone

Saying HoN is P2W is a bit of a stretch, even ill admit that, but it is 100% without a doubt 'pay for an advantage'. If that classifies it as P2W then so be it, but in DOTA2 you cannot pay for an advantage.
People keep saying things like this, but its funny because DOTA2's business model will undoubtedly make Valve significantly more profit than had they done a traditional B2P or the F2P model that HoN/LoL has. Valve are doing this model because it attracts the most players, and earns them the most revenue. Just like when TF2 went F2P and it saw a 12-fold increase in revenue from selling nothing but cosmetic items. I'm not really sure how the rich company can 'afford' to make a large profit but the poor companies cant???

Except they can lock Dota2 on your Steam Account to fully disable your ability to play Dota2 if they so want to and still allow you access to your other games on that account.
So unless you plan on making hundreds of steam accounts only for dota2 you will probably soon realize what Valve are capable of doing on a whole other scale than what S2 can do with banning accounts since Ip banning is out of the question.
Ps. No Brook I won't show them to you![]()
lol @ people thinking that having 106 heroes in your hero pool vs 105 heroes is pay2win. I highly encourage everyone who thinks like this to move to DotA2 or LoL. Your ignorance is no longer welcome here.
I personally dont like dota 2's shop. I feel its too small and stuff
I am very open minded and will give Dota2 a shot when it is available.
BUT, I doubt it will be better than HON gameplay wise.
How does the dota shop rape hon's shop?
You can spend around 1 dollar to change the appearances of your weapon, or give your self another hat.
HoN lets you buy completely different skins, voices, animations, gender etc. And extra vanity such as taunts and announcers (altough dota will probably have these as well).
Seriously... I don't understand how you can think dota shop is better. Just imagine changing one of scout's weapons. Would you really care about that? No, it's way too smal to notice. But this is exactly what dota is doing.
