    I don't give a ****, you're posting this in the wrong place. There's a DotA 2 Thread with about 2000 posts in the off-topic. It's official. Go.

They are going to make money via cosmetics. Just like S2 originally made the store for.

HOWEVER Valve have alot of money coming in from steam etc so i think this is a marketing ploy to take some of LoL and HoN players.

Because Valve arent in such a financial rut like S2 was before they went F2P.

So i think this is a very smart move by Valve.

So no, I don't think DotA 2 will follow the same format as TF2

Can people please attempt to keep the discussion to HoN/the "MOBA" genre of games? If you continue to speculate about DotA 2 this thread will be locked as DotA 2 discussion goes in Off Topic.

So sue me, I'm giving you guys a chance
guess what i found after my first game

    ****ing valve

anyways valve is one of the only company that can have this sort of business model. My guess is that it will only create deficits for them but its okay cause its valve.

really even hats and the equipment in TF2 kinda did have some sort of effect in-game although miniscule

LOL is not going to die or lose most of its business (because it has a very different feel than DOTA), HON on the other hand will get hurt really bad.
Every hero below has one or more new ability effects, Check them out:

The way HoN does it is just fine IMO. Being a legacy account, I get all heroes free (I need to wait a little bit with EA ones, but I still get them free). For those who aren't legacy accounts, I honestly can't sympathize for you guys having to buy the game. There was a huge (2+ years or so?) window to buy the game for a mere 30 dollars, anyone who didn't take advantage of that have only themselves to blame.
    Brazilian and proud.

Why would anyone give up HoN for DotA 2 beats me. Hon has better spell effects, larger hero pool, and, believe it or not, all heroes are available free of charge (shocker)...

Did you forget that the F2P people that S2 is relying on to bring in extra revenue can only play a certain amount of heroes per week? Spell effects are subjective (I like some from each) and the larger hero pool will mean little when DotA gets to bring in all the classic heroes whereas S2 has to create new ones (which are really declining in quality IMO).

This isnt about the people like us who bought the game for 30$. Money from this genre comes in from the F2P crowd and Valve pulled a move that may pull over a huge amount of players from LoL, provided the thing goes out of beta.

8 dollars for a freaking weapon on 1 hero. Lol wtf, and then people complain about prices in the hon shop

Dota 2 has better spell effects, better infrastructure, a better hero pool, and you dont have to grind coins to unlock heroes.

Theres no catch here. You get the entire game for free, and if you want you can pay money for cosmetic items (or earn them by playing). It is for all intents and purposes the exact same business model as TF2.

There is absolutely no chance DOTA2 will run at anything close to a loss..

This, being a valve game, as well as being completely free, AS WELL as being the 'true' sequal to DOTA, will attract a ridiculously large playerbase. It was a very smart move by Valve, and they know it will be very profitable as they tested the 'F2P waters' with TF2 and it succeeded immensely.

ofc valve has to make dota 2 completely free to play, it is the only way they will get anyone to play that piece of crap.
    blahblahblahblahblahblahhalb

4 accessory on each 100+ hero = 400+ more item to sold = Filthy rich Valve. Go Go D2.

Can someone explain this 'hats' business please?

Dota2 will help Valve in the long run - they are expanding Steam's popularity plus gaining a greater following.

Don't take me wrong - I'm perfectly fine with whichever free-to-play system a game goes, simply because I like free stuff. I paid for HoN back in the day (2 accounts) so I wouldn't really like having legacy and free-to-play players mashed together.

Just saying that Valve has some good business plans with this game. It doesn't cost them that much, it's fun, designers enjoy it - and they will make more money off of other games.

Also, they will earn money from cosmetics from the shop, same way S2 does. Early Access heroes is just a freaking desperate way of earning money. S2 once said that Store will not bring players any advantage comparing to people who don't use store - which means it was all cosmetics. However, they begun selling heroes only to people who PAY for it, so it did eventually turn into "pay and you'll be in advantage" system.
    "You're MINE.... umm, yummy"

am i the only one that likes this kind of shop?
with this, you can customize your heroes in a way that you like. (your sven will not looks like other svens!!)
And this creates a good opportunity for the art-makers to get some moneys for their hardworks (unlike hon, i have seen seen peoples's ideals get stolen by s2 sometimes)
but after all dota2 has that "intended delay" so **** it, i will stick with hon until they remove that crap. (or until all of my friends swap to dota2)
