I started this thread because, for quite a while, before I started playing HoN, I have been using a trackball mouse. For those who don't know, the trackball mouse is a stationary mouse in which there is a ball that is rolled around by your thumb to control the movement of your cursor.
My question is this; does anyone else use or prefer this type of mouse to the standard mouse, or have used both and prefer the standard mouse, and why?
Pretty much looking for pros/cons.
use whatever you feel comfortable with
me for example only use microsofts 1.1, they have a lifetime of 2 years maximum so i bought like 4 of those already.
i heard trackballs are pretty good for fps games but idk
Power is correct its amazing for FPS but i dont really like it for HoN. but i do and have played with one.
I have a friend who had played FPS games with a track ball for many years. Now he plays LoL with it. He does just fine, actually.

I have the same mouse as ThiaZ.
I have no trouble using it for HoN, though I agree that it works better for FPSs than RTSs. You probably lose a bit of speed/accuracy when moving the pointer to a different part of the screen, and it can be a little bit easier to lose track of the cursor when using a trackball. On the other hand, camera panning is much easier.

I used to play semi-professional counter-strike source with a trackball. One day my mouse broke and I bought a standard mouse (some logitech gaming model) and I never looked back. The difference was night and day. The moral of the story being just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you should.
Keep the trackball for Powerpoint and Freecell where it belongs.
My roomate plays with a trackball. It reduces he reation time IMO, but he says its fine.
Of course it's fine... until you actually switch and notice the difference for yourself. I said the same thing. None of my buddies could understand why I played with a trackball, but I was just as good as they were, so I didn't see the problem. Once I switched mice, my reaction times went through the roof. Within a month, I got moved from rotate position to mid on my CSS team. Anyone that knows Counter-Strike knows that's a pretty big deal (similar to going from hard support player to mid in HoN). I can say with certainty looking back that I would not have had the reaction speed for mid on a trackball not matter how good I thought I was on a trackball.
I do, I been using a this same trackball brand/style for years, and I tried normal mouses and they just do not work for me.
I've gone through like 3 of them since 05 but overall a great mouse no problems for me.
