Good Afternoon,
Lately I've been doing alot of research into competitive play and line-up/builds and I have noticed that sooo many players choose to purchase Mana Battery --> Power Supply.
Can someone please tell me why this is so? What makes this item so special and worth getting on soo many heroes? Gimme the 'low-down'
Skasian..
Well.. it keeps you in lane really, the extra healing/mana replenishing.
You'd be surprised how many charges you rack up on lane (especially if you're faced up against a spammer).
Also - if you gank/get ganked or get into a team battle, the charges build up to max almost instantly.
And since a lot of heroes will choose minor totems as a starting items for cheap stats, then it helps build the Power Supply.
That's what I think anyway.
for the price of a bracer you get +3 to all stats and a use that is infinitely better than +3 to another single stat.
It's also built from items that many heroes start with (2 minor totems) and the mana battery can be bought from the side shop.
I get it on any hero..and it has saved me from deaths many many times. Plus it is cheap and basically same stats as bracer, as Fenald said.
If you want, start with 2 minor totems and some regen, and buy mana battery + recipe later.
I usually go mana battery + 2 minor totems + 2 runes of blight + 1 or 2 mana potions..works well.
Are you looking as to why people get Mana Battery in general or why people upgrade their Mana Battery?
Mana Battery is an amazing item that can be used in multitudes of instances, such as chasing a hero (low on mana, but with a Battery you could get that extra spell off) or save your life while being chased. It's usefulness comes from the amount of healing it turns into during teamfights where spells are going off simultaneously.
As to upgrading to Power Suppy, it upgrades the amount of charges you can get from 10 to 15 (15x15=225 hp/mp) and +3 to all stats in one item slot for roughly 300 gold extra. Which is very comparable to buying a bracer, but with an extra healing / bonus mana during crucial moments.
I am convincedEspecially the bracer argument. Thanks guys !
The most important part of this item is, that the heal and mana comes INSTANT! Not like the potions or runes. And that is so crucial. It saved my ass so many times...
I usually start with 2 x minors and a recipie, then either consumables straight or consumables and a bracer.
Buy the mana battery with the first 210 gold I get in the lane. It's as good as starting with a full bracer for +stats, and I have consumables and the mana battery ability right off the bat.

Less gold than a bracer for only slightly less stats but a 15hp/mana boost per charge, once you have a few charges you're effectively carrying around a bracer. Carry around full charge and its almost two bracers.
A bracer gives you 57 hp and 0.09 HP regen more than a power supply.
With 4 charges, you can instant heal 60 hp.
With 15 charges, you can instant heal 225 hp (for a grand total of 282 hp given by the power supply, vs 228 hp given by two bracers). And it recharges. And its instant. And it gives mana... must have, imo.
And what happens when you find out you are laning against arachna and magebane, youll never get a charge :/
I think its best to just use the mana battery when laning because if you are up against people that like to conserve mana or have no skills to use then you are stuck without regen items. Its nice to see if you have a spammer or not then buy it at the outpost.
I assume he referrs to it being a complete counter to armadons early game.
Every time he casts a spell, you wont be losing any hp, and will be gaining mana. Thanks to the charges. Not to mention that the supply will gain charges even if your not affected by the spines, as im fairly sure the range on charges is higher than the casting range of spines.
The "lolwut" is directed towards the "(not competitive though)".
Takes the place of a bracer/null/band, -3 specific stats, but that is easily eclipsed by it's amazing activateable which can be used to turn the tide of early skirmishes, and feed you large amounts of mana later in the game.
