The WarBeast, one of the most contraversial heroes to ever set foot on the battlefields of Newerth. There are so many WB guides out on the internet, with so many different variations of item builds on this heroe that ultimatley he suffers do to the lack of understanding his effective role on any given team. Most pros will say WB is a wonderful hard carry but only situational for certain specific team line ups, and others will say he's virtually useless. A somewhat poor jungler, and horrendous laner because he lacks lane presence who gets out carried by agi hard carries and other str carries during late game.
First off I am no pro by any means, but I am here to defend the WarBeast. You don't have to be a pro player, to understand the function of a heroe, or to make sweet combos and team line ups.
WarBeast is infact a deadly hard carry if not one of the top 5 hard carries in the game, and the good thing about WarBeast is that he is not situational, and can go with tons of different line ups. He is indeed one of the few carries that can eliminate an entire team, and rax a base in seconds. The reason people don't appreciate a good WarBeast is because most people are
1. Either too lazy to keep up wards, which if you're teammates are not warding then they deserve to lose. Warding sucks, but someone has to do it!
2. Most people don't want to have to wait for you to jungle for 20 to 25 minutes to come and team fight. Well I'm here to eliminate that problem for you.
I'm not going to go into great detail on every exact move you need to make with WB, as most people know you should wait in base before the match and spawn wolves at 10 seconds and pull the weak camp at 53. blah blah blah
So Basically you want to start out with 1 ward, 4 mana pots, and a hatchet. Most of the time I have one or two friends buy me a mana pot as well, though this is not necessary it does help you emmensly and no one really suffers for it, but it makes up for the gold loss from the ward you bought to prevent you from getting ganked, and it will refrain you from going back to base. Easy right? Don't solo que and play with friends and you will always be safe.
Next you want to rush one item as fast as possible, enter Whispering Helm, why WH? Well it's simple not only does this item give you damage, armor, and lifesteal but more importantly it allows for creep domination, which not only will set up great ganks at lvl 6, but also allow you to stack mutiple camps for the quickest farm possible, and act as a ward to keep you from getting ganked if any at all. This item gives you maximum pet pushing power, makes you harder to focus in team fights, and makes you a fearful threat to back door to keep the opposition on the defensive end of the battle. And thats not even the best part, because this item scales and can turn into a huge str carry item for your late game granting more health, dmg, and increased lifesteal. The Symbol of Rage a luxury for the WarBeast.
The Whispering Helm should always be your first item and The Symbol Of Rage should always be your final item, the secret to maximize your helms full potential is to dominate as many hard camps as possible until you reach Symbol Of Rage or are being pushed into late game and you must defend at will, or you and your team are pushing towards victory.
Plated Greavesover Steam Boots
or any marchers for that matter. Always I repeat, always go plated greaves! For one PG will give you more movement speed when not in ulti form, as well as more armor for you and all your pets under your control not too mention an added bonus dmg buff for all your dominated minions. This item is dirt cheap, it synergizes well with your helm too build you into the dps tank you need to be. This item can and will be a deadly dps item for just something as simple as boots, if used correctly! By end game if done right, your damage output will be unfathomable and it will be because you chose plated greaves. And don't let anyone else tell you different! Steamboots why? for just a tiny bit of attack speed, health, and dmg? Ghost Marchers for creep walking? You can creep walk in ulti form! Post Haste for teleporting to bd towers? Screw that crush your enemies!!! Plated Greaves for maximum protection, and damage output!!! Get the most out of your boots, period!
Puzzle Box lvl 3If you got whispering helm, and plated greaves then this item is about as core as it gets, plain and simple. Manaburn wizard, along with a mauler who grants 600 dmg upon the unlucky bastard who destroyed it is insanley deadly. Not mention the reveal stealthed units upon release is somthing special. Puzzle Box will grant you more str and the much needed mana to pretty much allow you to roam free without really ever having to go back to base. This item makes for an easy solo Kongor, and along with Plated, Battle shout and Primal rage your dps will be brutal. The opposition will fear your power ,and your pushing presence has now become now inevitable.
Shrunken Headmore strength, more dmg, more health, temporary magic immunity! Need I say anything else about this item? This item is your mid game carry item! The only reason you shouldn't get it, is if the opposing team was stupid enough to pick heroes with almost no magic damage, or they went with heroes who have superior lockdown ultis, or physical stuns, so in this rare case you should replace shrunken head with either Abyssal Skull, or Insanitarius. DO NOT get shield breaker, or frost burn, or savage mace! For one sb, and fb will cancel out your whispering helm because of the attack mod orbs thats a waste of precious gold, and honestly savage mace is just way to expensive and need to stick to the item build the maximize your full potential. Go cheap and effective, both Abyssal Skull, and Insanitarius will make you extremely deadly anyways and will not send you into over farm, over kill mode.
Daemonic Breast Plateconsidering the fact you bought whispering helm, plated greaves, and puzzle box lvl 3, then you really need this item in a bad way, if your pushing into mid/semi late game. For one, this item is going to give you the much needed attack speed that you sacrificed when you chose plated greaves, over steam boots. This item is the item thats going to synergize with your plated greaves, and helm to now make you and your pets superior tanks, thanks to the added armor bonus as well as allow you to cut through the enemy lines like a demonic freight train! If they haven't conceded yet, then I'm guessing you haven't imposed your will upon them yet, and I'm guessing your threat is being talked about amongst the enemies.
Brutalizergives more strength, health and dmg. Truthfully this item is meant for one reason and one reason only. To stun in the midst of the chase, this item will help you chase down your enemies allowing for a quick and easy disposle. One stun from this bad boy makes for an almost too easy Minotaur stun into a complete stun lock into what I call a stampede where you micro so well that anyone you face 1 v 1 and even 1 v 2 in most cases you can make your opposers virtually immobile as well as make for an all too easy manaburn.
If somehow you're still in the game and you have the gold you may have 10 or 11 dominated minions scattered throught your fountain and now it's time to transform the whispering helm into the symbol of ragethis is what you have been waiting for your luxury carry item. If your not virtually insane by now then you just plain out suck at this game, because you should be ripping your enemies limb from limb. Your about as evil as they come, unleash your fury upon the lands of newerth and sink your teeth into flesh of all who stand in your path, for they are now your victims.
You have completed the WarBeast build, you should have outstanding armor, terrifying push power, temporary magic immunity, a nice health pool, sickening dps, a stun for the chase maximizing your crazy attack and movment speed setting off your critical strikes, and excellent lifesteal. You should be happy, because you have created a dangerous hard carry, now with a bit a skill and some halfway decent micro you will send tremors into the spines of the other team. Whats not to love?
^A+ postSeriously though, good read.
I've seen quite a few times in higher level bracket play where Warbeast lanes and is used mainly as a Warcry b!tch and secondarily as an auto-attack carry with monster pushing power late game. What they do is they actually neglect leveling Wolves early on, and max Warcry first along with passive for the overwhelming last-hitting capability (they'll usually have babysitters anyway, say Demented Shaman or something so laning isn't tough at all), and they'll actually do things like get![]()
disassemble

(and work toward eventual

). It's mainly only used in push-oriented strats where the game is won in the first 20-25 minutes, but I just thought I'd mention it here as it's quite effective if you can get the lanes to work.

Elder Parasite may seem troll at a first glance, but it's actually quite nasty when maxing Passive and Warcry first because Warbeast gets HUGE damage output from the early Steamboots+Insanitarius, and that really cheap attack speed along with lifesteal can be very overwhelming with your ultimate if used properly.
Also, if you're picking upfor increased Puzzlebox damage/pushing power but not Whispering,
is quite nice to consider as it gives you decent damage that is boosted by your passive, and it also gives you a slow that helps you chase much better, and can eventually be upgraded to
which gives Warbeast monstrous survivability and some big damage as well.
Lastly,is a good consideration on Warbeast if you need to be tankier as a frontline hero for his team. However, he already has a lot of other potential core items (

) so it's only situational, and is usually gotten later..but the thing is if you're playing Warbeast correctly games actually shouldn't last that long, they usually end within the first 25-40 minutes with Warbeast getting ludicrously overfarmed from pushing/BD'ing and ending with a somewhat early rax.. hence usually you won't make it late enough to consider Behe Heart

Excellent read, and very well written. I agree Plated Greaves all they way! What makes this worthwhile is how you took the time to explain why to even go this build, and truthfully it makes a lot of sense. Thank you for this!
One thing you can go that is often overlooked at the start is , ring of the teacher. the armor helps heaps at that level, the mana regen is priceless too. I find it awesome on him, would rather it than whispering as i tend to go a push warbeast. But thats the beauty of the beast u can play it how ever you want.!
Actually it depends which strategy you go for, if you're going to the typical warbeast pushing style you should get plated greaves and puzzle box yada yada.
But if ur going for the carry kind of build it's more like a frostburn/shieldbreaker and a shrunken style.
Warbeast is my fav hero. I've been trying many different builds, because most people say that warbeast needsand i usually use
like you. So i wanted to give a try..
Andreally works way better than
late game and for a pusher build, but it takes too long to make you usefull for the team. So in my oppinion,
should really be the first item.
But i don't agree with you about.
There are many ways to play warbeast. Most people say warbeast is a right click hero, but there're so many other ways to play warbeast. All of them can work, depending of the game.
There's not the right or wrong way to play this hero.
can be a good item for warbeast. Awesome DPS and it works really good with his ulti.
Latelly i've been trying a carry build like this:
,
or
It works fine after i get shieldbreaker and it's awesome late game, but i still prefer the whispering helm build. But today i thought about a new way to play warbeast.
I like to play warbeast either like a carry or pusher. I think he's not that good with tanky itens. He already has good hp, and he's not supposed to initiate. With+ his ulti, he only needs damage to be a good carry.
Sometimes i disassemblelike preston said, but i don't like to use
without
.
But today i discovered you can sellfor the full price (950 gold) and use
for
.
So, i thought about:
::Carry Build::
(disassemble
, sell
and use
for your abyssal),
,
or
::Pusher Build::
(disassemble
, sell
and use
for your abyssal),

Wb is fun to play in mid against certain heroes. He has massive dmg with warcry, passive and hatchet. Its freefarm and doesnt take you that long to have some nice items. I suggest trying. Only downside is that you wont be lvling dogs so you cant push as early.
