I've experimented with 3 different methods of killing creeps during laning phase.
1) the spam move click to cancel animation.
2) the spam right click and s
3) spam right click and h
Can someone offer some insight to which method is the best for maintaining the best cs while also denying the enemy easy cs?
The style that fits your style, not what others think is best. Opinions are opinions, preferences are preferences![]()
Not quite. Statistically, there will always be a way to maximize your CS through particular methods of play.
Whether those methods mesh with you is another story. I, personally never use Cancel and Hold when CSing, I spam right click non-stop and just align myself to my target moments before I need to attack, or just factor in the delay before my hero can turn to swing.
This is statistically probably one of the worst ways to go about it because using Cancel and Hold can ensure you don't auto-acquire a nearby target and mess up your last hit if you're not extremely used to the method.
Technically though, what Kessu1 said is correct: You should do what you're most comfortable doing, you'll eventually hone it into your own art that will flow for you in a way other methods might not ever actually be able to.
The best method is whatever you're the most comfortable and proficient at. Though, using Hold Position is usually the most accurate and efficient method. Most people who use Stop instead of Hold do so based on DotA mechanics since Hold interacts differently in DotA than in HoN.
Hold's advantage allows you to pause briefly and perfectly time your auto-attack. Stop, while similar to Hold, will only stop your hero briefly, but he will still try to attack, so you need to repeatedly hit S and reclick your target (if it's not closest). Clicking all over the place instead of holding or stopping means your cursor will be nowhere near the target creep come killing time.
However, spam clicking can be effective to throw off the enemy if the target creep is closest to you, then you can A-click at the proper time to get the CS. This is the most preferred method, generally, for whacking down towers (A, Left Click, Right Click, A, Left Click, Right Click).
Right click and A click for the closest creep/hero and also chasing.
I use different styles depending on the situation. I find hold to be pretty good when freefarming, however it makes you too vulnerable when laning where I prefer hit and run tactics. Most of the time I use s though. This is for melee characters. More rightclicking and holding and less s clicking for ranged. Just use whatever nets you more creep kills.
I spam right click to cancel most of the time its also good because at the same time ur dodging possible enemy skills
and click on ground with "a" when its the closest creep
sometimes it helps to get closer to creeps when u are ranged because the time it takes for ur attack to reach the creep becomes less
Well you want to be issuing all attacks with 'a'. And however you set yourself up you need to be able to stop your attacks before they go off if you see that they are gonna be too early. I use 's' for stop and spacebar for stop+hold.
This is the best strategy imo.
1. If the enemy has a presence in the lane, ie no vision+missing people, someone is near you. You want to spam movement commands while using right click to on creeps to get the last hit. The point is to be constantly moving around and ready to react to anything.
2. If you have good vision and there is no enemy presence. You can afford more attention to last hitting, so I like to issue attack commands repeatedly A+left click, and constantly cancelling the animation and allowing the animation to play through when I am confident I will get the CS.
-It is also fun to sometimes mess around with attack animations in a 1v1 situation, but it really doesn't do much other then mess with the other person's head.
