    Origins of Goblins?

So this one bugged me a while about Newerths Lore. Where do Goblins, Orcs and Ogres come from?

What we know about Newerth is that it is basically earth in the future. Earth with magic however. We also know there are two intelligent races, humans and the rather young race of Beastmen, which are in itself divided in several different kinds of beasts.
But where do Goblins like Repulsor, Bombadier, Twitch, the Electricians and Merrick come from? Are they a kind of beast or are they mutated humans?
I actually tend to the latter.

When I started playing HoN I thought Engineer and Blacksmith were dwarves, as did my friends. I later found out that there were no dwarves in Newerth lore and they are just humans that happen to look kind of dwarvish. So I told my friends, those aren't dwarves but humans. And they did not believe me. They told me if everyone was a human what about Flint Beastwood and Electrician? Are they humans too? They have green skin they can't be humans.
At the time I had no counter argument, but pure speculation, so I asumed they are maybe mutated humans. Then I realised that all of those "greenskins" have something to do with techonlogy. Electrician and Repulsor with electricity and Bomb, Flint and Twitch with explosives. They had to get this technology somewhere. So I thought maybe they and their ancestors lived in places where still intact technology could be found (atleast intact enough so it could be reverse engineered). Perhabs places where radiation was emitted. Not strong enough to kill, but enough to change them. Of course not all technology users of Newerth are greenskins, so I would guess not all hoards of ancient machinery are contaminated with radiation. The Watchtower however could be a radiated place, with Transmutenstein and Zorgath in it, giving a bit of proof to my thesis.

However this still leaves out ogres. Ogres don't seem to be as fond of technology as the greenskins are. They seem rather primitive with their clubs. The only ogre using some kind of technology is Gauntlet and he doesn't use it at his own will but was forced to by the Hellbourne. So are ogres changed humans? Are they a kind of beast? Or are something entirely different?

Love your idea of the greenskins being mutants. Imagine a new hero whose central theme is corrosion and waste (yes we got ) who is just a nasty aftermath from a failed mutation. Maybe incorporate it into a swarm idea and voila a new hero idea is born. Maybe they are the a civilisation with the knowledge of "ancient" technology. I'd always thought are just supersoldiers made by for the hellbourne army.

So the ones involved are: ? anyone else?

Whenever I see a new "species" i tend to wonder if there's a whole civilisation with it. Same goes to and such. Is Ned a single lonely being, or does he have family that he can go back to?

I definitely agree with the "goblins" being mutated humans who have been exposed to radiation from old technology for a long period of time and have become warped by it. Orges probably developed along the same lines further away from the radiation mutating to have a single eye and lesser intelligence. I am personally rather fond of the idea that flint beastwood is a evolved pig. He has the tusks and nose for it and pigs are pretty damn intelligent now so evolving into a gun wielding more human like species seems to make sense.

The beast horde isn't a single race but multiple races working together. Most animals have achieved intelligence in newerth.

    Here's how it works:

When the Ancients warred and destroyed themselves via a catastrophic event where (REDACTED) is unleashed everywhere (and therefore killing most of the humans), the (REDACTED) also happens to wreck havoc on most living things.

It is this time when most of the Beasts experienced the Awakening (of sentience. Prior to this event, the Beasts had no "true" sentience)

This event also triggered the attention of (NAME WITHHELD) who sent the Hellbourne to Newerth.

The Goblins/Orcs/Ogres and other semi-human/blurred-entity existences can be seen as a mutation of the Human race OR the Beasts, but either way, their origins most likely stem from the (REDACTED).

I'm sorry if withholding the names of those two things makes it very frustrating, but I made a promise not to reveal those names without permission. Meanwhile, discussion on!

So is this the official lore for Goblins and the like or is this only relevant for the stories you wrote?

Btw: Are you in correspondence with the official lore writer of S2? If yes maybe you could ask him/her if he/she wants to join us here. Because HoN's lore is still very vague at most points and some clarification would be cool.

You know what would be a great story? the time that made the civilisation to be brought back to the primitive state from all those technologies. I assumed that it's the nuclear war that caused it, but having a proper story would be awesome.

Strictly speaking, Goblins, Orcs, and the like are not covered in the original lore stories. I inferred their evolution based on what I know about the actual background settings.

I'll ask, but he's quite a busy man, and just about everything he knows I know anyways. The few things I don't know about Newerth at the moment are things the public is banned from knowing.

Thing is, we really shouldn't be using the terms "orcs", "goblins", and "ogres" in the first place. This is what makes the S2 lore special, in which they have their own way of explaining how they evolved into this, and it isn't just to add popular character types into the lore.
My goal is for at least one of my heroes to be ported into HoN! Help my cause and get S2 to see these!

Its in the lore for savage1. Mans hatered and greed grew so great that god abandoned them and the hellbourne we able to escape from hell and consume pretty much every thing.

It's not that I made those terms up, "Nedd the ogre was captured by the Hellbourne" (from Gauntlet's lore), also there are different kind of ogres as neutrals, then we have Goblin Coins, used by a rather goblinoid Merrik and Flint has an alt avatar called "Orc with no Name" and he was called an orc in promo material if I remember, though the canon of this is unclear.

I know what you mean though. Newerth's lore doesn't have goblins, orcs and what not in a typical fantasy way. They are all humans, but transmuted in some way. Except for ogres we can't even be sure if they are called goblins and orcs in lore. The sources we have are to ambiguous to be counted.
