Worth buying madman for casual player?

I wasn't sure about where to post the thread.

Anyways, I only like to play melee carry-style heroes. I just play random public and random ranked matches to collect silver, so nothing in particular. My favourite is pred, who I pick pretty much every time I play.

I did play madman a long time ago, and he was good back then but now I don't see him anymore, and I just returned to the game so I'm wondering whether I should spend my hard earned silver on Madman, or perhaps something else?

    Thanks in advance

He has very good dps midgame+ and imo he still is a good pick in casual. If you really need to play a melee carry I still want to suggest Chronos cuz he is both more useful in teamfight with his nasty ultimate. I mention Chronos cause he is 250 silver and not 400.

So if you dont got Chronos, it would be a better pick up before madman, In my opinion ofc.

But like I said, for casual madman can still be a real beast with his crits and attack speed so obviously a decent pick overall, just that Chronos is usually more scary for the enemies and more useful in teamfights cuz of the mentioned ultimate.

Message me in game, I have a beneficial idea.

One thing you should know about Madman before you buy him is that he is not a hard-carry the way most typical Chronos/Sand Wraith/TDL are played.

He is similar to Magebane - they both have high mobility, solid damage early-mid game, and sorely need survivability rather than straight damage. This means you generally should be very active throughout the game, and although sitting back farming for 30 minutes is viable on him, it's not exactly optimal. However, because of this I would recommend him more than any other melee hard-carry, simply because he's a lot more fun to play.

You don't really see him anymore because the recent heroes/items make him rather... Underwhelming, in comparison. The SB/Bulwark additions/buff don't really benefit Madman in any way since he desperately needs to 1. survive and 2. stick to a target (hard even with a really good snare and a 522 ms spell), so he's outclassed by heroes that have better use of these items. In addition, most of his nukes are rather insignificant against the tanky heroes you see everywhere. But that is the case for most agi melee carries, so I'd probably recommend Madman more than anyone else aside from Magebane.

I should mention I used to really like Madman and always found him a blast to play :P

    Will do

And thanks to you other guys for the replies, very informative.

I just stumbled upon The Dark Lady which I've totally forgotten. Do you think that could be a viable option instead of Madman, or is she too difficult to use for casual players?

Why go madman when there's TDL, Chronos or Magebane on the board?

TDL is great even if you're against a hard lane, because with Taint Soul and hatchet you can farm very well. Also her ult gives assists so you can assist your team while you're not there. And TDL does a shitload of damage on level 7 already, with Dark Blades.

Magebane is of course nearly unkillable when played correctly.

Oh and TDL isn't hard at all when you get used to the hero.

I'm fully aware of Chronos, but I've never liked him. Keep in mind I don't play on any serious level, so I'm not after the "best" hero in terms of team-composition, rather I'm after a hero which is fun to play, good but not necessarily the best.

The thing I most enjoy is just bashing out in melee, when I play pred on ranked I just go lifesteal with some other stuff, mainly attack speed increase. If the match goes on long enough, I can take on pretty much anything and win with almost complete certainty (given they don't know how to properly counter pred, but most ppl don't bother on public matches).

But I'm actually considering TDL over Madman.

the thread makes me cry. Dont play just carry. sometimes its better to stick up with roamers/gankers or support. but madman is it really worth, just max q,w so u have 400dmg nuke + 50% slow , and lategame u rock with your ultimate, i whould skip it until q and w are level 4, maybe 1 level in crit. A Chronos with Ultimate instead can trap your mates too, in my opinion madaman is the better team-hero,, he can bait, and has this awesome slow, which even makes it possible to disjoint for a moment.

I don't want to sound rude, but I don't really care whether people think I should play carry or not. I only play for fun, and I just find characters like Pred/Madman/TDL to be fun. :P I will buy both TDL and Madman, but currently I only have 400 coins so I don't know which should be my primary choice between TDL/Madman

To answer you shortly, yes. Madman has a lot to offer you. He's good at dealing damage early with his barrel roll and stalk. (I usually max them before leveling his ultimate).
Madman can be played both mid and on sidelane(shortlane preferably). You may get an insane farm and damage if you pick up a runed cleaver for example. But he will at times be forced to pick up a nullstone to be able to survive.. with that being said.. he will still dish out good amounts of damage. With the nature of his ultimate you will benefit extremely much from items such as brutalizer and savagemace in terms of lockdown and damage.

On regard of TDL and magebane.. I have played TDL on a number of occations and she's extremely good.. But could be a bit tough to handle and the itemization is sometimes tricky. Magebane is mostly played defensively with a helm... I personally dont prefer that.. magebane can be strong early against the right set of enemies.. but he's usually really weak.

If you're looking for fun from Magebane, madman and tdl I would rank Madman and TDL the highest. I would say TDL is the most difficult hero of the three. I find it hard to rank the other two though. Depends on what you base it on.

    Have fun!

Madman is a better hero than tdl. There is a reason he used to be the only agi melee carry picked on comp games - his concept is pretty broken.

I would suggest mm, cause he is good 1v1 mid and carrys hard later.

I have finally bought MM, and I'm very pleased with my choice. If I get good farm, and items in proper time I can do real good. Won my first match single-handedly, albeit a public one with lesser skilled players (like myself).

Well you're not gonna have much fun when your melee heavy 5 carry team gets completely shitstomped due to lack of stuns and early damage output, and that one jackass swears "we've got late game" (which is not automatic, SOME of you have to be farming well) and you're stuck til 30..

I never played carry hero's in casual mode and im almost at 1800 mmr. Its just pointless to sit and farm in casual when a kill gives you gold wort 10 creeps and assist wort 5 creeps.

Madman is still the best melee carry, imo. He has massive early game nuke damage and great late game autoattack damage. Shrunken head and some stats and you are a beast. He doesn't even need an orb to be effective until late.
