Implement New Portrait Displays
It is quite a minor change, however the effects can be quite effective on two things: Performance (with the 2D Portrait option) and Appearance (The other various options).
It thoroughly improves the eye-candy factor of HoN's UI and appeals to various players as there are several displays to choose from.
There is already an existing mod of it, so I'm sure that implementing it wouldn't even be much of a hassle, as well it gives a great boost to the overall look and feel of the vanilla Game UI.

Narrow Portrait with No BG
Narrow Portrait with Player Color BG / WC3-like
Wide Portrait with No BG
Wide Portrait with Player Color BG / WC3-like
Wide Portrait with Legion/Hellbourne BG, Lighting and Effects
Experience Bar is merged with the name bar.

It's a good idea for a mod, but I prefer that S2 dont use their time implementing something that a mod can do and it's not a critical thing.

Great idea! I really like how the background of the portraits would change if they were on the Hellborne or the Legion. Adds more to the game.
I would loveeee to have this in-game.
I spend half the time on Dota2 just admiring the awesome portraits lol

Was going to post something like this, good thing I looked around. I support this idea. An option for having the 3d ones and the just straight portrait even ripped from the hero's area of the website, not even brand new made ones. Would be a nice small feature.
I really like the way it looks with your changes, especially Legion/HB bg (had some problems finding out where exp bar is though, because i saw them before reading entire post)
