In short, what is valkyrie's role? Is she a hard carry, semi carry/ganker, or a support? A little bit of everything or the potential for different roles depending on items?
I never really play her without a Shieldbreaker and Geometers.. She can be very useful even without items, purely because of her arrow and invisibility.. She should probably be classified as a Semi-Carry.. Carrying with her is definitely possible..
She is a semi-carry with loads of utility. She isn't a real carry - she's just a ganker with 600 range that scales well enough and has an escape that also gives some attack speed for offensive use so she can be (always is) played as one. She is overpowered, always has been, always will be because she is ''perfectly balanced'' and will never be nerfed (ie. she has always been OP so she is fine just like the rest of the dota top picks). She can lane anywhere except jungle and do well - tri, mid, solo, dual. She can do any role and do it well. Do whatever you want to do with her, she can do anything.

this reminds me of mirana i remember when she could solo a enemy team after a while she got nerfed to oblvion now valk is much better
Valk's role is to do anything and do it well because she'll never be nerfed.
Well. She can solo offlane, easylane and she fits dual and tri-lanes. She farms pretty effectively, has good nukes and an escape as well as big team-utility in ulti. And she hits hard with the right items. Can compete with hard carries if properly supported, she is a mid-to-late powerhouse. She's at her best when there is another hero grabbing the spotlight (DW/Pebbles/Kraken etc...) so she can just take a position and start pounding in damage. I'd say in teamfights she is a priority target if you can reliably take her down early.
Valkyrie is a powerful tool but in no way OP. Her stun is massive and is a great asset, however it is also the hardest to land skill in the game so it balances out. Her ultimate is also a powerful defensive and offensive tool, however I can't consider OP something that can be countered with a 100g item, sorry. Her leap is good, but not as good as blinks and her nuke is just moderate.
It is possible to carry with her, however I find it significantly harder to accomplish than with hard carries. Mainly because you need an impeccable farm. If you die two times and the enemy team takes the advantage, you're pretty much screwed up as a carry. Valk needs a lot of items to actually reach the damage output of a hard carry and she has multiple builds, depending on enemy hero picks. Never should be played with just the "basic" Frostburn -> Geometer's + Frostwolf build. That one is useful when you need to counter a melee carry. But sometimes it is better to pick a Shieldbreaker for big damage output. Sometimes a Shrunken Head is a must-rush ( ) and some times Nullstone should be picked up first ( ).
This hero is powerful but not OP, as her power is balanced by the fact that you need some big skills and some brain usage in order to do the job.
Her semi-carry potential depends a lot of your early sucess with farming/ganking. She may be very useful for the team but she is also highly item dependant to do any damage mid to lategame. I still don't find her that overpowered to be honest. She does not rival in any way the damage of a real hard carry.
Her Main role is to destroy enemy team One of the best heroes in HoN
- AoE nuke
- 5 sec stun
- Escape mechanism
- Global ult for both offensive and defensive use
- Great +agi gain so she scales great into late game
- Good attack animation and attack speed
Give her ShieldBreaker and it's pretty much it.
Oh and don't forget - dont go frostburn on her unless you want to do do no damage in mid game.
Since she's been like this for so long, she's just considered "balanced" and "not op" but really she has been one of the strongest and most versatile heroes in the pool for YEARS.
Has there ever been a time when Valkyrie wasn't a solid hero to have on your team? She can play like 3+ different roles, can also solo lane, 1v2, dual lane, can trilane.
Basically the definition of versatile. Whoever said her stun was the "hardest skill to land" made me laugh, too. You can just use it as a follow-up...
Why has everyone moved away from Steamboots > frostburn > geos + frostwolf on valk? i think its still a great build.
But to answer your question, she is good at many things, but her carry potential is extremely situational in the way that she can sometimes play the hard carry role depending on enemy heroes, but cannot always
valk can be played as anything cept shes like hag where midgame all she does is autoattack or just run away
i rather see her as a semicarry or just ganker/support since other heroes have a better chance to carry

Her role is to stay away from me picking her. I'm somehow the worst Valk ever.. On a seriously note. She is a semi-carry no doubt. But like stated before can excel at almost everything (lane wise, support, carry potential etc.). When in doubt pick valk my buddy always says...
Valk carrys harder than other semi-carries, but isnt hard-carry so something between it. She also can support if you can land good initiating arrows.
Or you can play with a magmus on your team, and then it's basically a guaranteed hit for 5 seconds following his stunValkyrie is a powerful tool but in no way OP. Her stun is massive and is a great asset, however it is also the hardest to land skill in the game so it balances out.
that's why it doesn't quite balance out

I generally use one of these builds as I play valk: steams->null->savage/wingbow/sb/genjuro/geos, steams->frostburn->savage/wingbow, steams->geos->savage/sb/wingbow/genjuro (if they have a bunch of nasty debuffs to remove) or steams->sb/savage->savage/sb/wingbow/genjuro/geos (you generally need a solid team or a severe lack of initiation from the opponents for the last build, I normally stay away from that in pubs). If the opponents have a few heroes where nullfire is solid (for example, jera and monarch), throw that into any of the builds above (frostburn+null is generally a bit of overkill thou).
Regarding the starting topic, she's generally a ganker/semi-carry (with the added benefit of being a good suicide laner), she can be played as a support/roamer aswell, but you usually have better options at your disposal (but if you are stuck without any proper supports yet a bunch of decent stuns in bd/sd, go for it).
Regarding the balance matter, a hero that's picked up every now and then and basically never got fp/banned in the past year (except after amazing performances/special players) obviously isn't broken.
