How would you do it?
I was thinking of going ghost marchers and shroud (along with a battery).
You can easily position yourself, you do some good damage early game.
Maxing LRM and bunker down.
After that I go savage mace for more damage.
Morph items seem useless early game/mid game since most damage comes from your well positioned and aimed LRM.
So it's better to stack up as much damage as possible.
And always use bunker down of course.
anything, hero is ridiculously overpowered
i'd probably do your approach (ghosts->shroud->savage), throw in a runed axe (yes runed cleaver) before the shroud for regen, just to demonstrate how retarded overpowered this hero is
finish genjuro, get someone to tank kong, take token then start stacking doombringers, gg
no seriously though, what a retarded hero. grab some mana regen, then just start stacking damage and spamming creepwaves for free gold, stay in the back and get allies to stun enemies, lrm, win game.

Don't worry guys, Lodestone won't be getting picked up in competitive, your balance forum regulars have assured it in this Lodestone balance thread ;)

^I was gonna suggest Nullstone for the regen but then I said f it, I'll just mention Cleaver, I mean hey it gives more damage and he can be like no where near you and still DPS/slowfuk you down
and hey you can disassemble for Shroud parts, Nullstone, and a Riftshards later so honestly, why the hell not?![]()

I'm talking specifically about abusing lrm as a farming tool. It actually scales with 'attack damage' which I'd assume means it works more along the lines like monkey king and drunken. bunker down bonus damage does use base damage to scale though.
and I actually have personal vendetta against runed cleaver, yet I suggested that over nullstone.![]()

Go for w/e u like. U've still won after 15 mins. Just awaiting the incoming nerf, then we'll talk
noticed that ghost>shroud>SB>Savage is the best for him, then go shrunken to finish it off.
Frostburn instead of SB works too but early SB is so good.
Ghost marchers seem to be universally agreeable as the best choice of boots.
I like power supply and grave locket as well as a soulscream for stats and mana. He doesn't need a whole lot of mana but this usually gives enough so that you can use LRM to farm/harass and still have mana to spare.
From here I like to go geometers bane and then savage mace, perhaps an assasins shroud before completing the geos.
Sometimes I like frostburn into geos/frostwolf skull to stack them slows.
I'm by no means good and I'm still learning the hero but I like to get some stats items for survivability instead of pure damage right away.
Whats the go with Artillery he doesn't really fit the theme, seems like a lame comeback to RoI's commando character. things are getting bleak if a crap knock off like RoI is putting pressue on HoN, must be due to DoTA comming out. On a side not Artillery seems like a toon that isnt very good for anything compared with existing options, hes the toon you pick if you really wanted Forsaken archer or flint if someone else picked them....
"toon" :/
Protip: stack damage items, sit in the (very) back, get some allies with aoe stuns to stun for you. lrm, bunker down. Ult if necessary, bunker down, lrm. If they didn't die from this then you probably did something wrong like, NOT go damage pickups.
this hero is a flint on mega-steroids, all he needs is someone to setup a stun for him and he COMPLETELY destroys teams just by following up, if not by lrm damage, then by being slowfuked while you just finish off with auto attacks.

^ this
heroes like Monarch's slow, magmus ult etc etc really wreck them with Art
You need to pump atk, while mainlining maximum range. I'd say Geo Thunderclaw is the cheapest item if y want to do fast game, while savage for long term.
I saw many artilery user yesterday that going to close for the enemy team, they get wiped out really fast. Really bad move.
I bought artillery when he came out and have played him a lot since then. Here is the conclusions I have come to from my experience.
Starting Items: Runes, Red potion, 2x Duck boots, 2x Minor totems.
These items seem to work well. If you keep at a distance, you should be able to avoid a lot a damage in the laneing phase. You have the regen for 'just in case' and to recover from a gank.
I then build ghostmarchers, iron shield, and powersupply on him.
The first big item I purchase is frostburn. Frost burn seems to have a lot of synergy with Artillery. It gives attack speed, movement speed, agility for damage, and strength for HP. I purchase the firebrand part first.
I then work on damage items. Savage mace and riftshards have been two good pickups.
Just my thoughts from my experience.
I strongly prefer Ghost marchers then Nullstone as the core items for this hero. This hero needs mana regen to farm using LRM indefinitely, just as it needs survivability during all those times the opposing team figures out you have no reliable escapes, and as such essentially roll over and die if they ever close the gap.
Shroud could work too, though I prefer the health and mana regen on Null. I tend to pick up either Wingbow or Savage after that, though if my team decides to not get armor reduction items for some unholy reason, I don't leave those options closed off. Nor do I mind picking up a frostwolf or shrunken head if I feel like I'm still getting focused down too much.
My skill build depends on what I'm with and what I'm against.
Bunker Down for those matches where I expect to be harassed a lot or I need to keep my distance.
LRM for rolling lanes/actually killing opponents.
Sometimes I forego getting Bunker Down at all for the early levels, but that's only if I already outrange the opponent and I feel a need to harass the heck out of them. That slow makes for some good early game kiting and allows more missiles to hit. Completely destroys opposing melee mid heroes.
Am I the only person in the world who likes Nullfire blade?
I'd appreciate your thoughts on my suggestion for gold coins!

Check my Guide for Items Build. I'm playing atm at ~1550 but gained ~60MMR by playing Artillery with this build.
I was Mid, solo short, and with mate at lane. Works all well. But this hero is NOT overpowered, if someone catches you, without having ult up, youre DEAD.
I'm going for Maxing Q.
Situational I decide if I get slow or Bunker down, or both. Depends on enemy.
Normally a mix of both.
My Item build is getting Ghostmarchers + Bottle ( Nice reg, because of low manacosts )
After that I normally get Substainer for the reg with bottle I need to farm as much as I can an survive at lane/teamfights.
After that getting Shorud is a good choise, because you need that survivability and you can go invis while channeling Q in teamfights, while still be able to turn around.
Then Nullstone with the Substainer and after it Genjuro.
If you still need more items, it depends on your and enemys team.
Nullfireblade/Savage/Shieldbreaker are fine. Because of the dmg. And Nullfire because of the purge + slow, while you extra slow with passive and channel Q on him.
But Nullstone+Shorud are Core for me, because of the survivabilty+dmg you gain.
"hero is NOT overpowered I just used him to gain 60 mmr" ohhh I gotcha![]()
