At least it's better than the vn in which if you don't fulfill a specific condition Nagisa and ushio stay dead, tomoya joins them too.

Well, after story goes for the true complete end. The idea is all those glowing orb things are basically Tomoya learning what friends and family is about (and helping people in the process), and thereby overturns the unhappy end to earn a happy one. In the VN if you don't get all those orbs, everyone dies.
