Not sure whether this should be in "strategy" or not, but anyway.
I was just wondering how do people cope with monkey king being on the enemy team? So many times I've seen him just wreck my team with that insane burst and mobility! Sure in the END he isn't too much of a threat, but early and mid game he seems retardedly strong.
So any tips on how to counter that little bugger? Maybe people who play a lot of MK can say something which wrecks their game
Anyway thanks!
In the hands of the noob, any hero sucks. In the right hands - every hero is OP and should be deleted. You cannot counter him if the player who plays him knows how to evade you/ganks.
Has Fun love you're live.
Get stuns. Stun lock. GG. Oh, also, get map awareness and dont be a noob. Monkeyking is only overpowered if you allow him to feed/farm well in the middle lane. If you early gank him and just stomp him, hes going to be just as worthless as any other hero. Any hero who gets free farm solo lane exp/gold and gets fed kills from the side lanes is going to own all game long. Period.
Hellflower =)

Okay. So how about heroes that can well handle him mid? Do you have any kind of preferences when going against him?
Heroes I have used to win mid vs a monkey king: Bubbles(When he starts jumping you go into your shell and he cant combo), Gladiator
(Monkey King can't burst him down, and you can harras the **** out of him), Deadwood, Jeraziah, Predator, Tremble and Pestilence.
Bombardier vs Monkey King middle lane works well.
Step 1: Get Bombdust on lvl 1 and 3. STAY THE **** BACK AND FARM. Mk will get some farm aswell.
Step 2: You should have a Ring of Sorcery at about 3-4 min, if you start of with some parts of it and know how to lasthit with bombdust.
Mk can't beat you, as you can spam Sticky and Bombdust to harass him out of lane while staying far back. He can still gank, so try to keep track of we're he's going. You'll have money enough to ward both runes yourself. If your teammates on the lanes isn't backing off when MK approaches, it's not your fault(obviously). The wards also counter a possible comeback for MK with help from another player. (Also obvious...)
Step 3: ???
Step 4: Profit... Mid won
There should be no problem staying mid and farming, helping the lanes using your ultimate, unless your teammates fail terribly ofc. Get ghost or steam, then a Tablet of Command to break Mks combos, on yourself and on your teammates.
Remember to push the middle tower while MK attempts ganks.
Turned out to be more of a general guide of a way to mid as bomb... Works well for me when i face mk =) but then again, I'm only 1730. I haven't had a chance to try it vs an 1800+ mk yet.
I play MK all the time. If you have a choice, ranged hero mid will fare much better than most melee. Tort, silo and, as above said, Bomb, are probably the best counters to a good MK mid. A good MK will destroy most melee, with the exception of salforis. Even against Pebbles, a good MK knows how to dodge the rocks.
HOWEVER, if you don't have the option of picking your hero against MK, here are some general suggestions.
Stay near trees/ramps. If he attempts to flip you MK can easily vault himself out of line of sight, breaking the combo - this infuriates me.
Don't get into auto attack fights with him. He will burst you down. Do what you can to keep your HP up. If your HP does drop, eat a tree, use a bottle/potion.
Don't stand in one place. Nothing makes me happier than watching a TB mid, on hold position waiting to last hit a creep. Makes it very easy for me to vault over the creeps and then double vault him.
Don't stand in the slam crater. I have no idea why so many people will just stand in the crater after I do my vault combo. Sometimes you're slowed and can't move out of it, but other times people will literally stand there and auto attack.
Bracers, Rott, hellflower, tablet, talisman.
Salforis/Electrician are pretty hard for MK to do anything about. Fast bottle build (double totem, shield + runes or something) and keep him out of lane with your superior harass. He won't be able to kill you nor farm particularly effectively, and both heroes have strong movespeed boosts to get the first runes. Once he has an empty bottle and you have asserted lane dominance his early will be pretty trashed. 1/3/1 build on electrician and 0/2/3 standard build on Salforis.
Both heroes can easily exchange some blows with a MK with basically no risk due to health regen or electric shield if played well.
That said a really good MK will completely trash a bad or mediocre electrician/salforis, but if those are heroes you are even somewhat comfortable with they are very good bets for a melee counter.
No pharo love? If his combo doesn't kill you, just hellfire and mummy, usually after his combo you wont be near creeps so it all works out.
Alright thank you all for your suggestions! Gonna try some of them the next time I see him.
is a combo hero. As such, :Nullstone: disables him pretty well in mid and late game. If he is being a pain in the ass early, 550g item that gives +5 armor is good. It makes you reduce about 25-30% physical damage and his damage is mainly physical.
:Hellflower: is a universal counter - it counters practically every hero. Some more, some less, but there is no hero who won't suffer from such a long silence at least a bit (and +20% received damage also hurts - problem?). Use :Hellflower: on Monkey King and he can only rely on auto attacks for few precious seconds.
Ring of the teacher and str steamboots makes you enough tanky for his combo early.
My favorite anti-MK heroes so far are Slither, Succubus and Torturer. Though Slither is quite brutal against most melee heroes.
Succ, Puppet for annoying disables always works on all heroes that dont use immune. Or fight fire with fire and choose Panda and he gets a taste of his own medicine since those two have really good burst damage but panda is better imo cuz of his 4 sec disable ulti.
Ring of the teacher as someone mentioned + get a good disabler on your team. If you don't have stuns / disablers then it's prolly game lost at picking stage.
Monkey king isn't so OP before he has no nullstone and other items. Lategame his base dmg will be around 400 with correct items. All you need is a stun on him and aoe spells. Really good counter is hard tank Ra.
