Well for instance Ophelia, Riftwalker, Berserker, Artillery, Ellonia, notice the trend here, their alternates look like they were once we who they were, but chose different directions in life, for instance Artillery chose to become more like a machine than man and Riftwalker delved deeper into her magic, making her more monsters than human. Basically you go with which ones look like their life could have gone this direction in another scenario. So none of the Devo skins for instance, although Ra alternate skin I feel is his pure form, uncorrupted, this make sense?

Actually RA alternative skin (the skeleton one) refers to his DOTA counterpart, which is the Skeleton King. And if you mean the Phoenix one then it's hard to agree, as phoenix is a popular mythological creature known for it's ability to rebirth. The hero design has the same ability so it was just a matter of time for someone to link it and make a Phoenix avatar.

Ra in Egyptian mythology was often represented as a Phoenix, so it's not too much to suggest. But as I said this would need to be another thread, just not all heroes fit into alternate reality of Newerth only certain ones do.

I agree with all but the quoted ones. As far as we know there is only one Slither. Of course Ivy Slither (I know it's MSIvy) could be another demon frome the same pit. In that case I would prefer to call her just Ivy.

Same applies to the individuals, the alt avatars could just be other beings with similar power, but how likely is it that the Hellbourne finds two mummy's, Pharaoh and Cleopatra (which one? egypt had atleast 7, but I guess it's the famous one^^) who have the exact same powers? And then a third from China. Well it did happen in Brandon Frasier's Mummy films...

However I still think we should make an extra thread for avatars, even without them there is enough to discuss and speculate in this thread.

there are only a few alts that are not messing up the lore, like bombs alts and chipper but most of them have nothing to do with newerth, they are just made to look nice and have the same feel as the original hero, but no background.

this is why they shouldnt be discussed in this thread

If the Hellbourne are supposed to cleanse Newerth of life, what will happen to their corrupted slaves if they succeed? Will personas like Artesia, Maliken, the corrupted disciples of Sol, Doctor Repulsor, Lord Salforis, Demented Shaman, Gunblade etc. be killed as well? what happens when the in-game Corrupted Disciple dies seems to point to them just being used as tools until they're no longer needed and then they will be killed too (CD gets sucked into his orb). Can they earn the right to live if they succeed well enough or are they truly just expendable slaves?

How does Hellbourne corruption affect you? does it eliminate your free will or does it influence you like the dark side in Star Wars or just being high on a drug? can it be both and vary? I mean are the beings who are corrupted or willingly serve the Hellbourne aware of their incoming demise should their own faction succeed or are they just naive to the point of not thinking about the consequences of ''their'' side winning? is it that the powers of the Hellbourne influence them so much that increasingly, all they feel is a desire to kill, destroy, hate etc. and this would naturally lead to a (probably complete) lack of much thinking at all and especially long-term thinking?

Do the corrupted/willing slaves of the Hellbourne have independent control of the powers they have been given or can they be taken back at will? for example, is CD's orb just a manipulative object that responds to its controller or is it like The One Ring that will semi-sentiently always serve its true master?

The hellbournes goal if you can even call it a goal is to devour life. They will if left unhindered consume the majority of life on the planet and then return to hell to wait until the next period when they are awakened and able to consume life again. I would assume most of the humans/beasts who defected will be consumed in the end with a few life madman who transcend the line between human and demon might continue on in hell.

The hellbournes corruption doesn't eliminate your free will or tempt you. Its more of a maddness that slowly draws you in. If you have defected to the hellbourne you will no longer care about any thing you did before. You will in likelihood become a puppet or become consumed by a desire to the point where you care for nothing else not even your own preservation. The only real reference we have to this is malikens experience in the savage 2 lore http://www.savage2.com/en/story.php

I have no answer as far as objects go as we haven't given much information to even speculate on it.

I would like to say that i have written 2 short stories (one for the first Creative Continuum, about one of my fictional characters, Maximilian Egragor, a scout and a second one about how the Legendary Valkyrie met the frostwolf she is ridding) and in both stories I have described two different places of the North, one is the Northern Settlement of the humans who serve the Legion and the other one is an fortress were Asgardian warriors live. Do they count for settlements or places of origin in your catalogue of your heroes? And here are the two stories:

Would it be ok with you guys if I write and post an extended lore about scout, naming him after my own hero? It would mean a lot to me. Oh and by the way, the armies of Hellbourne consist of demons, warlocks, mages and slaves?

  13. #153
First question: Scouts are a group of people, therefore they have different names for different individuals. You can name your scout however you want, it's your story after all.

Second question: Yes all of those + Undead, Ghosts (which may be counted as undead) and some creatures and people that joined the HB on their own free will, but are no mages, like (possibly) Magmus and the Madman.

Thanks a lot about this. I will have it ready as soon as possible. Did you read my story?

  15. #155
Yes I have, atleast one of them, since my time is very limited these days. I read "A Legend is Born" and I liked it, my only point of critique is, that it is a bit oddly paced at times. For example you describe every detail at the beginning and than the story skips several days with Valkyrie running away. Well still better than my stories I guess. You can find them in a thread in this sub-forum if you are interested, I wont continue them for now, as I have no time and nobody read them anyway.^^

Another topic: Why is Prophet now a Hellbourne hero now? The lore is still the same, it cleary states that the Prophets oppose the Hellbourne, so them being members of the HB army doesn't make any sense. I know gameplay wise he was switched to make space for Pearl and I guess they chose him because he looks a bit evilish with all the purple. It just doesn't make any sense lore wise. Will they change him back to Legion once they updated the hero window?

    Thanks!

Yeah about the odd pace. I didn't have much time to write so I wrote it as fast as I could (and it was quite hard to imagine everything from scratch :P ) Hope you liked it though.
