So I've been playing a while, invested about $40 in heroes and played some pub games. I bought a stat reset (made a noob mistake and got my leaver % way too high). I did fine in pub games, improving my gpm to about 250-270 a game and usually going a positive KDR near the end of playing them before starting MM again today.
I tried MM and got stomped. First game I tried Maliken (who I played fine with in Pub games), went 2-7 and we lost. Second game 3-4 (I think) and still lost. Third game, went Nomad and went 4-4 and I think won that one. Last game went Myrmidon and went 3-4 or 3-5 and lost.
My question is, out of the heroes that I have and given that I like to be doing damage and getting kills while not being TOO squishy (Agi heroes are fine for me), which hero would be best to start with.
May have missed some but if anyone can help me out, I'd appreciate it. I get that Plague Rider is ez mode, but I'd like a more difficult champ to play while not being OMG HARD MODE.

Arachna, depending on your bracket, is a carry/ganker. Early game she harass like no other, only rivaled by Slither, and once she hits 6 she can solo most non STR heroes. Big counter is Homecoming stone though, but below 1700 they rarely carry those around all the time. She is a nice counter for invis heroes and other squishies. Though don't depend on her too hard if you don't manage to snowball, her farming is awful.
If you want to know how to win games in mm then I would suggest plague rider.
He can play a babysitter (support) role or even a solo role so he can get items quick.
For babysitter role, just focus on denies and warding (and please level up distinguish at level 1 no matter you are babysitting or soloing)
For solo, of course you would get your mates to ward for you, but use your attack animation to your advantage to score cks, and harass opponent out of lane using the near-mana-free nuke.
Plague or Glacius.
Edit: I'd also like to say this is the first forum post I've been able to make, and I've been playing and reading forums wishing my account could reply since beta.
You get a nice big nuke which also slows, can help you escape and deals good damage early.
Unlimited mana with your second spell, good if you haven't learn t about using mana situationally just yet
3rd skill is a good armor buff which is loved by your ally right through the game
and your 4th ultimate is very effective in team fights. Learning to use it situationaly and to great effect will also teach you lots about the game
Add to the Plague Rider has one of the highest (if not the highest??) move speed, with strider not much will catch him. Very good for getting out of trouble if your map awareness inst great.
Hope this helped!!
Try to avoid Arachna until you learn, how to last hit properly, because Arachna needs a lot of farm.
I would go with Witch Slayer (dont killsteal with ulti) / Plague rider / Glacius if you want to learn how to play this game.
Then maybe try Pyromancer - his stun is a little hard to land at first
You shouldn't pick any type of carry, looking at your last games: you die way too much. Play it safe and don't die, that's the biggest improvement you can make (and farmfarmfarm)
Easiest hero in game, not squishy, stays relevant throughout game with stun, slow, buff carry. Easy kills early game, good support late game, single target only. Just a very easy, useful hero. Just don't KS people, they will get mad at you. If you're in a teamfight and an enemy is low, use your stun and slow on someone who ISN'T definitely going to die. The main problem for noobs is that they focus all of their abilities on the person dropping fastest. If someone is DEFINITELY going to die, it's pointless wasting an ability on them.
I would recommend kraken, he can last hit ez with his passive has an escape skill and can be usefull (superior magic ult) even without items. Hes tanky too so you can maybe stay alive with him better than with squishy heroes. If you work with him for a while you should be able to win most lanes if you have a ranged partner, kraken can harrass with his passive because it has a rather big range for a melee splash. His ult is a bit tricky at lower levels because the slow/pull is weak but like that you can train time delayed skillshots which will help you on other heroes (e.g. Salforis, Gladi, Geomancer, Pyro).
But if you play MM go for Support .
If you did your stat reset already we can play some in mm if you're on. Try witch slayer. Very easy and very useful, and will teach you the importance of wards also.
Also watch some high MMR replays so that you could learn how that players are behaving in jungle, how they are coming to other lanes, etc.
Watching replays maybe not look like the best thing that you could do, but it is good to get better understanding of the game, even if for the most of the playerbase here is watching replays only pain.
Get Ra or Armadon.
Dont get plague rider, it's awful. Can't kill anything and dies easy.
I can try watching more replays. And yeah starkey you can join in on me. I tried Witch Slayer when I first started and just found him idk...boring. I wanna try Kraken but idk. I should stop hero hopping and pick one. I just never really liked playing support. I guess I should try more though and watch replays.
U could also try heroes with escape mechanisms or invisibility if you find yourself out of position most of the time. Armadon, kraken, keeper of the forest etc are also good since they can get tanky fast. Also in the case of kraken and keeper, they have pseudo-escape mehcanisms and can farm relatively easily. Also, watch replays and don't follow the official guides. Most of them are worthless.
bad comment. Plague Rider IS one of the most easiest heroes to play, very hard to master and is actually nearly unbeatable in his efficiency of early game support/Antipush abilities. He provides a potent slow, Item independency a shield that destroys melees mid and late game and an unbelievably overpowered ultimate taht, if timed well, is devestating and a guaranteed killing massacre.
About your suggestion to pick armadon or Ra. Ra, i agree, yet hes a bit bad after his nerf to the creep dmg and armadon.
ARMADON, ARE U KIDDING HIM?
Armadon requires a high apm, a good sense of positioning (like flash turning to enemys at each of their attacks while chasing to provide additional spines cming out) the stacking slow needs has o be on the right target very fast, switching lowers his efficiency by ALOT. Only thing i could think of that u meant was, cuz he has 2 assives. still, this dude is nothing for a beginner. he additonally tends to fail alot when having a troublesome start.
I would recommend you to take some strenght hero anyway, kraken is a good decision, he provides a great early game presence and a huge teamfighting ultimate. additionally he is situational very good with his slow and a prty hard to hit stun (which is prolly one of the hardest to hit in Hon) which is at the same time also a good escape mechanism.
For a good go into the game blacksmith and plague would also be a great choice. plague, as i mentioned above and blacksmith, as he has 3 targetable spells and a funny ultimate, which can cause alot of anger and madness
If u really want to play some carry roud, train Forsaken Archer or Arachna. Both prty solid RANGE carrys. Melee carrys are WAY harder to play, nearly all of them require an even btter positioning than Ranged carrys, since u can focus on staying a bit besides with a range.
But for the begin it also makes sense to just play everything. find what u like, train it a bit, learn the game. If you know the heroes, know all spells or atlest a bit what they do, the real gaming train starts where its alot about positioning, map awareness, calculation and stuff.
gl getting into the game, if you have any questions pm me here in forums and i can smurf with you or play wid my real acc (1850 atm) and mentor you.
I really want to try Sand Wraith. He seems really interesting. Challenging to play, but my problem isn't really the heroes. I played enough LoL (sorry to make the comparison) that I know how to play heroes after a few times playing them (the basics at least). My problem is positioning, farming, map awareness, calculation, etc. like Sound_Mirror said. That is what I need help with.
Please, no matter what you do don't play something like Sand wraith unless you get the map awareness, farming and calculation part right. Because in the end you just end up hindering your team. Instead start with heroes that are less riskier until you get the basics right. After that feel free to go crazy
