I would like to say first that if you do take the time to read this that I hope it will help. Also don’t be discouraged if the first games this does not work. Keep at it and eventually you will notice the difference. I would also like to say that everyone gets angry and messes up. You need to fight the urge to rage as I will explain more below that the more you are successful at it the better your play as well as your team play will be.
Let me go all scientific on you real quick to try and strengthen my points. We can all agree that Hon takes a lot of knowledge and on-the-fly reaction. This game will stimulate a large part of your Neocortex (the most advanced part of the brain) more specifically the frontal, temporal, and occipital lobe. Emotions (like that of anger) come from the limbic system(a more primitive part of the brain) Within the limbic system is a small structure called the amygdala (mainly known for the “natural survival instincts”). As we play HoN the data will pass through the amygdala and a decision is made whether to send the data to the Limbic or Neocortex. If the incoming data has enough emotion attached to it, the amygdala can effectively override the neocortex making the person react using the less evolved part of the brain. Thus amygdala hijacking occurs and the person loses some or all control from the Neocortex, which leads to lower game performance. Long story short, raging reduces you overall game performance. Here I have some tips to counter act that and have not only have an increased enjoyment in the game, but also have a higher chance of winning.
UPDATE: A newly released study provinding evidence on my statment above.
The report states,"It turns out that a successful gamer is strategic and technically knowledgeable, and has good timing. Inconsiderate gamers, as well as those who act aggressively or emotionally, generally do not do well."

Picking Screen –
Sure check stats, I do every game. I also know stats are not everything however you can get a general idea of who you are up against and how your team is. My main focus here is to counter pick who I think their best player is, or at least keep that in the back of mind that he may have some good experience. I am not going to go into what else you can get from stats but just create your own formula for judging skill and apply it.
However this is where the initial rage and where the team can break down the fastest, and the game hasn’t even started yet. What do you do?
If someone first picks scout for example, don’t rage. He has all ready picked it and you starting to rage now will lesion his chances of even listing later in the game. Accept it and move on.
If you have a team that has all ready picked NH, Scout and TDL don’t go ahead and still pick Flint. Team carry teams never win. You are more likely to succeed by getting a strong support or a strong mid. You getting another carry because “you” are going to carry is not a very valid goal considering the lineup.
First 15 minutes –
This is the most important minutes in the game. You need to establish an absolute positive attitude for yourself and your team. If you can successfully encourage your team in these first minutes I guarantee you will have a 5x better game than if you would not have. Don’t misunderstand what I said there. Having a better game does not mean you will get a guaranteed win. But your enjoyment will be higher and you WILL have a better chance at winning. Using some of the tips below will help you succeed and continue to succeed the rest of the game.
Wards –
Yes supports should ward. However, if you have a team that does not ward you are at a HUGE disadvantage. Example: Lets say you are mid and have asked for wards (I will explain the proper way to ask for wards further down) but alas still nothing buy them yourself. I am not talking warding all over the place, but ward enough so you can get runes/counter gank/avoid ganks. Trust me in the long run you will save money. 1 successful gank because of 1-2 wards pays for itself (it also works if you yourself are about to be ganked but you avoided it). At this point you are warding for yourself and to better improve your chances of surviving and ganking.
Asking for wards/chick upgrade or anything else –
Ask, do not tell. No one likes being told what to do. I generally will ask in a form that benefits the actual player I am asking. For example: Lets say I am devo mid and I have DS on my team. “Yo, DS can you get some wards for me? It would help me gank your lane a lot better.” Profit? When asking for anything if you give the person(s) a reason for it they will generally do what you wish. There will always be those that refuse to do anything you may ask, even if you ask in all the right ways. Don’t rage at them cause that wont change anything either and will just reduce your effectiveness while playing as well as the rest of your team. Accept it and move on.
Laugh off mistakes –
Whether it be your own or a teammates. Mistakes happen, being firstblooded happens, move on. If a teammate fails to do something suggest what they could done better. If they don’t accept it or rage at you that’s fine, DON’T RAGE BACK. I don’t know how many times games have been lost in the first minutes just because a few kills and moral gets so low that the person will afk/rage quit/ ect. A fine example of this would be my last game. I had a nomad on my team that went top (we on hellbourne side) with thunderbringer. Unfortunately at the 2 min mark he gets dies first followed by thunder a few seconds later. He screams that thunder blocked him from escaping (which was true) and proceeds to scream at the team. I say try to say its ok and I said I will be more than happy to switch thunder lanes if he likes (I was grave). That tamed his rage for a few minutes. Me and jeri bot lane get ganked by the pyro, MM lane when we lavel 2. I suggests to jeri to get at least 1 point in his second skill so that we can survive the lane. They get a kill top, but thunder gets the kill by “ksing”. Nomad rages again, and dispite anything I say he refuses to do anything else, mutes the whole team, and ignores everyone, and for the next 25 min afk farms (meaning he did not move anywhere but forest) before eventually disconnecting. This happened in the first 7 min of the game. We ended up losing the game, but the game was winnable as we where doing great as a 4v5 team. You will get people like this, accept it and move on.
Encouragement and recognition –
Glac warded the rune at 2 min mark, thank him. Why? Cause he is more likely to continue to do so or do so more if you ask. It seems like a simple thing but you need to establish the positive environment to keep it going on to the late game. You and a teammate did a successful gank, give yourselfs a nice job. A teammate saved you from a gank? Thank them. I know this sounds repetitive but its very important and you will have a better chance of getting what you want if you do. Plus the higher the moral and positive attitude the more likely you are to succeed. Being angry reduces your chances of success as I said in the beginning of this thread. This leads me to my sub point.....
Supporting-
In any MMR range sucks, hence why no one wants to do it. It is a thankless job and if anything goes wrong it has to be the supports fault. This needs to change. At times there can be way more pressure on the support and whether he is good or not than the actual carry. If I support I become way better at my job if I get some positive feedback. Not you suck, nub KS etc etc. that gets me and the team no where and I dont know what is needed. A great example from a guy I had many games back. I was playing Glac and he was EW. We laned together and I tried to be very aggressive. Which didnt work out to well because EW was not as aggressive. He called me out saying to tone down the aggressiveness and play defensively for now. Fine that works, I focused on watching the map so I can call misses (just in case the people where not) and directed rune positions. Not 5 min later EW gets a double kill on the lane. 15 min later hes 7/1. We won. He never once raged, just said nothing or continued to give positive feedback to what we where doing right.
Hope this helps!

Ok Mr. Smartguy, how do you know then if it is better to get a more primal response than a thought out one?
I would assume that responding to a pyro ult with a nomad ult would be easier via the survival/primal instincts.
I dont think you understand what i stated so let me try and clear it up. I simply put
as what the amygdala is most commonly known for, not to say that it shouldnt ever be used. Also your "survival instincts" do not fully come into play in a game scenario as you are personalty not being harmed (real life vs fake) Sorry for the misunderstanding.amygdala (mainly known for the “natural survival instincts”)
However, responding to a pyro ult with a nomad ult is actually faster via the Frontal Lobe (part of the neocortex) which controls motor control and memory (effectively your response time to counter pyro)
Edit: Side note. I hope you understand that a "more though out" decision is not long. Milliseconds actually. The more you play the more your mind auto takes over some tasks that require no thought at all. For example, when you drive you can be talking to someone or thinking about something and you see a stop sign and start to slow down and stop. Did you have to think about what to do when you saw the stop sign? Or did you even see the stop sign at all? Prob not but because your mind is so trained it all ready knows what to do without you activly taking part in the decision.

Good read, totally agree. Why cant we just all be friends and try to remember ITS JUST A GAME
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0UeLSMa_gs
On a bit more serious note: A positive mindset makes it easier to achieve success.
Or we can be that guy that blame everything on him being high (even though its prob not true)
And yes it is. Its hard to do in this game because of all the negativity but iff you build up some thick skin and take measures to just achieve then you will be alot happier win or lose
Edit: Just as a side note. I dont totally agree with the mindset of "Its just a game". As we want it to be a simple as that but its really not. Because of the competitive nature of this game I treat it more like a sport. No one likes to lose so there comes frustration that "O well its just a game" fully cant satisfy. Not saying its the wrong state of mind, just saying there is a little more to it.

Sure its a competitive game so it can be comparable to a sport so when I play I DO take it serious and try my best but I encounter way too often people raging and trolling over the smallest things such as accidently last hitting a creep/hero or when someone dies due to bad play. I guess what I meant by "its just a game" is you cant take everything so serious that your going to rage at teammates for the slightest mistake. Whats the point. If everyone is trying their best relax and try to have fun
It's a good read, but when I get a lot of bad games in a row my anger crops up and I go ****ing berserk at some point, what do? :[
I don't really have a lot of forms of entertainment, and nothing at all but video games to throw my frustrations at and it doesn't really help when HoN makes it even worse.
Ill answer this with some more science if I may. Remeber when I talked about amygdala hijacking? This happends when a flood of energy and hormones rushes to the brain taking over the logical side. Anyone has either experienced or knows about being so angry that you lost control and after the fact you cant remember what happened or you "blacked out from it all". Though not as extreme (though it can be) playing the game has the same effects. It takes time for those hormones to decrease in intensity. What I do is take a break for a time. Do something that makes you actively have to think or coordinate your body to do. IE not sitting and watching TV (not saying that doesnt work, just less effective). Working out, eating, doing a chore, something that gets you moving. The reason for this? Body movement stimulates and uses the Neocortex(your logical part) which allows you to regain your focus

when you play long enough you realize that the best experience is achieved with "cg_drawchat 0"
you can do that. I choice not to because this is a team game and you can achieve more with communication. If one person fails /ignore command work just as well
I am going to bookmark this and share it with my friends. This is excellent advice!
