network lag issues

I have having some serious network problems with HoN. Somewhere during a live game, maybe 10 min in or from the beginning, my lag is so bad I have a solid white d/c sign on the left that spans for at least 3 min. After it passes, I may be able to play for a little while until it happens again which spans for 3 min, sometimes longer. During this lag I cannot move my player whatsoever and chat messages take about 1 min to enter the chat.

If I alt + tab out of HoN, I notice that my browser does not load pages, my skype is disconnected and everything else internet related comes to a halt. so obviously, when I am playing a game in HoN it completely jacks up my internet. The moment I close HoN everything is kosher.

I have HoN port forwarded, exception under firewall, so I doubt it has to do with security issues. Help please.
