I've got a MSI GX660r
i5 240m 2.66 GHz
ATI Radeon HD 5870
8GB DDR3 RAM (ive only got 32 bit though so really only 3.23 GB are available)
When idle and at fan set to default speed (lowest) my core temps are around 30 degrees C. During games such as HoN/LoL/Dota 2 (PLAY ALL THE MOBAS) my core temps rise to around 50-60, sometimes low 70s WITH the fan set to MAX speed (called Turbo Fan for MSI laptops). Should it be running this hot? or is this normal for a laptop. Take note i got my 1st BSOD the other day playing an hour game of HoN. It BSOD coz i forgot to turn the fan to max.....

would getting 64 bit in order to utilize the 8 GB RAM increase the heat produced by RAM? I heard ram doesnt really produce a substantial amount of heat but the laptop motherboards seem to always be around 50 and rarely change....
so would you suggest getting a laptop cooling pad? preferably one that is available in New Zealand. The laptop is a 16"4 screen size btw.

I take that as a YES to getting a cooling pad. Which one would you suggest?

my laptop runs pretty hot if I'm running a lot of stuff. It doesn't hurt to clean out the fans and heatsinks every month or so. Takes like 5 mins, a screwdriver and a compressed air can.
Heh, thats nothing, NOTHING I SAY. My three year old laptop... okay.
When I run HoN my graphics card is usually around 80-84C and my processor around 75C.
When I run SWTOR my graphics card is usually bouncing between around 95C and processor 75C.
When I played Crysis my graphics card was 115C and when it started to climb to 125C I decided thats abit too high and stopped playing that game :P
Yeah, friend said/still say that thats way too high and the components will break, but after three and half years everything still working I've just stopped caring :P
Edit: If you want to check the tempatures yourself you can always use AIDA64 or Everest. Actually I think Everest IS AIDA64 nowdays.
