I wanted to play this hero, but as im a little ***** that likes winning and likes knowing what he is doing with a new hero,
Is there any good guides out there? I have tried searching and nothing good came up. Or just some general pointers would be much appreciated, thanks in advance
Hey,
I'm not gonna write an indepth guide nor am I gonna refer to any particular guide because:
1. I'm lazy lol
2. Google is your friend.
But, I do use MK often. Probably one of my best and favourite heroes ever since he came out. No doubt an ass to fight against, but knowing some tips and tricks will definitely make you a better MK player as well as understand what to do when you face him.
Early Items:
Hatchet
Stout Shield
Runes of the blight
Here I get my heavenly leap skill and usually go mid lane. He can basically match fairly well against most heroes but with some (Pebs, Devo), try to be weary of your positioning. You don't wanna be hooked or stunned stupidly. Last hit (pretty easy with MK) and get your bottle as soon as you can. Level up your leap and stun. By lvl 4-5 you should have:
LVL 1 dash
LVL 2-3 Leap
LVL 1 stun
Here, if you can combo (it's typically w-e-w-q-auto attack-q but it depends on the situation), you should take out the mid no probs with exception to some tanks. Put pressure and go straight for phase boots. I don't go Steam boots as I like having rune control and it helps with chases but it's up to you.
Now just keep that rune control and gank hard!
If you don't have rune control then farm in mid and gank when needed. Be weary of ward spots the other team may have their wards in. If they are a competent team, they will have wards in their rune spots.
After that, get whatever you want that counters the other team. Afraid of getting stunned? Get Shrunken Head. Afraid of Witch Slayer's ult? Get Null. I usually do get null as it does provide the regen but it's up to you once again.
If you wanna carry, aim for Physical damage items (Shield Breaker, Savage Mace).
I find that MK loses mana really quick lol so I go for Blood Chalice since it's cheap and if you pick your fights correctly, you should have more health than mana all the time.
DO NOT go for Shroud. I hate it when people do that because yah it gives him mobility and surprise but MK is already full of surprises. MK can jump cliffs unsuspectingly, get out fights quickly and just rape in a matter of seconds and can still manage to get out. Shroud is just a waste of 3000+ gold in my opinion.
If you can't get out of fights and what not, then by all means go for shroud. But, in my eyes, it seems like you don't know how to use MK if you do. I can get out of fights no problems, use my bottle, and then come back in and own again in 2 seconds. If you die in a fight, it's usually because the team hates you or you were out of position compared to your team. ALWAYS BE CAUTIOUS WITH ANY HERO!
Again, this is how I play him. Many others have different builds and ability picks but I find this one the most versatile.
GL man and hope to see you in a game one day!

That first answer did a pretty good job of summing him up, but there is thing that I disagree with.
Don't get Hatchet/Buckler/Runes as starting items. If the enemy is melee, get the hatchet to out-last-hit him, and if the enemy is ranged, get a buckler to deal with the harass. You don't need both if you are mid. Better starting items would be Hatchet/Buckler, HP pot, Runes, and 3x Minor totems.
A Sol's Bulwark set to negative can increase the damage of your combo since Vault is physical on the target unit.

Yes get null against WS who cant use mana drain first and I also hate 1500 players who doesnt know alot. Shroud is awesome item on mk and even better now cause u can upgrade it into genjuro later.
Best combo from shroud is hit-stun-vault-vault back to the stun so he is stunned again-hit-dash and goes on.
If I know the enemy isn't Bloodhunter or Salforis or someone that just super out regens me I still like doing the hatchet+buckler combo against melee mids because the shield allows you to man fight better with autos to help get their HP into comboing range.
You vault - stun - vault, so you get in the extra damage from falling on them with vault. I cannot believe people still do not understand this hero.
And yes shroud is bad on him in most cases, if the team is smart; wards, eye, dust make the item almost useless and promotes you being out of position because you think you are safe while invisible. If I am stomping, I have gotten it once or twice but that is 1500 smurfing games, anyone with a brain will counter shroud.
